I hate W8 &10 but haven't tried them with a multi-touch screen - is there such a thing as a fully rugged with decent multi-touch and does it make W10 less hateful?
Not a massive fan of tablets.
Searched the forum, found the thread on the 19 Mk7 and a couple of threads from 2009. Thought there'd be some recent threads on this with W7 support ending next month.
Looking for the cheap option as usual but can't find a 13" USB capacitive screen with an app to modify a CF-31 - it'd have to be that simple a mod for my old brain.
Did find a 15" 10-touch digitiser with a USB controller on ebay for $50 though, so the idea wasn't completely crazy.

Marine chartplotters have full function touch screens now and they're quite rugged so it can't be impossible.
Alternatively best 7-like Linux distro for a very-low-to-non-power user?

The FZ-G1 and CF-20 have 10 finger capacitive multi touch and come with a wacom magnetic pen. I have both and they work like you would expect after using smartphones. For the CF-19, from the information i can find, mk3 and up support at least 2 different points and some up to 5 but none of them are capacitive. From the mk7 official brochure, it states that it is a 5 point resistive multi touch + digitizer. The screen is also very low resolution in comparison to the newer two.
Most features work out of the box under Ubuntu Mate(my favorite)on all of these devices beside auto rotation. Also resistive displays will work better under linux when using gloves, as the special feature with the cf-20 and fz-g1 require a special driver(only windows) to enable glove/rain support.
CF-19(sata) cheapest but old tech, FZ-G1 (msata) newer but no keyboard and cannot upgrade ram like cf-19, CF-20(m.2 sata) is fanciest but similar in upgradability as FZ-G1.Last edited: Dec 12, 2019interestingfellow likes this. -
In fact, Win10 doesn't benefit from multi-touch capability, but does benefit from capacitive tech.
Cheap option is any simple tablet.
MK7 and MK8 have a resistive multi-touch&Wacom option.interestingfellow and Wyoming88! like this. -
Guess I'll have to look again. -

You can pick up an Mk1 FZG1, i5 4gb ram that will run win7 (or 10, if you want - meh) for less than $400, and it has multi touch capacitive and digitizer.
I love mine. -
Thanks interestingfellow, but I bought the CF-31 because my old eyes need a bigger screen than the CF-19's.
Messing about with W10 trying to disable touchpad taps but it appears to be impossible - just keeps repeating that the best driver is already installed when I try to install different drivers.
Seriously thinking of going back to 7 again. Hate this pos.
