I mentioned in another thread my idea to use a webcam for replacing SMD's..
I got a used Microsoft Lifecam Studio..1080p HD sensor..8mp interpolated images
The Studio is also very good in low light and has a tripod mount.
The fuses are 1/8" by 1/16". I plan on piggybacking the new on top of the blown ones.

The cam came in and works really good connected to my CF52 with WUXGA.
I don't think the magnification is high enough at the distance I need to use the soldering pen.
So I tried some close up lens's designed for photography..They did not give me the results I want.
A Goog search gave me a hit on a lens to try.
I had a clipon 4x eye loupe for eyeglasses. That works much better ], but still not quite enough.
    So I ordered a 10x and a 15x loupe for $3.00 each.

I will post photos of my own setup once I get the parts....

No this is just for repair work...My version of an electronic magnifying glass... :)
I'm sure I will find other uses, but my plans are for it to be another tool. Not something to show my ugly mug all over youtube...
It would be neat to have a video of some of the mods I do.
Probably want to keep audio OFF...No one needs to HEAR my anxiety and frustration.

I have that same issue..The loupe by itself does not work with my poor eyesight. But it should work great to magnify the camera image.

Probably closer to sturgeon than surgeon... :p

The loupes do not work with the webcam/soldering. They would work to identify parts.
Plan B was to get a real lens.
I got a 18-108mm CCTV lens.... Computar LMZ45C5 18mm-108mm f2.5 video camera zoom lens C mount..The seller included the B&W industrial camera also..Panasonic GP-MF702..I got $12 invested in the camera and lens...
The lens is a real close up video lens...specs are here..
http://www.capraoptical.com/products/computar/closeup.html ..It says minimum object distance is .12..I just don't know .12 of what. Foot, meter, mile???
    Description of lens is..
LMZ45C5 - Macro zoom lens The lens is a manual LMZ45C5 zoom lens that comes in a variety of applications used by the PCB inspection to the measurement of patterns. This lens is designed for close-up and macro photography and is particularly suitable for use as easy-to-use lens for machine reading systems.

I got the express card Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1500 today..That will give me the analog video in...

I have success with my microcam setup..Not so sure about the fuse replacement, but the cam setup on its own is exciting
The B&W MF702 did not give a good enough picture for me..
So I picked up a Panasonic WV-CP244 Color Security Camera. $10.00
This one is the keeper with the Computar LMZ45C5 18mm-108mm f2.5 video camera zoom lens.
I used the HP Expresscard TV tuner for the composite input needed for the camera. It's a rebranded Hauppage WinTV-HVR-1500.
The frame rate is slow so it takes a second for the image to catch up with any rapid movement.
I had to use a tripod and set the end on the lens about 12" from the motherboard. Plenty of room to work.
A macro slider would really help, but not absolutely necessary..Focus is very touchy. This is where a slider would assist. Wide open aperature is f:2.5..That's gives a very shallow depth of field..It was easier to focus at f:5.6 or f:8 with the increased depth of field. A little darker image, but not a problem.
    Now for the photos...
    The whole setup....

Nice setup! You need a light defuser or bounced light though.
