I finally got the OEM GPS retrofit working in my CF-29 Mk 2 (thanks, doobi !!), and I also have a new CF-30 Mk 2 with OEM GPS installed.

It seems that the GPS in the CF-30 is much faster and has better reception than the one in the CF-29. I know that they are mounted differently internally, but are they actually different units ? Did they improve the GPS in the newer CF-30 when compared to the CF-29, or am I imagining things ??? :)

    They sure did

The antenna placement on the lid has helped, but there has been some improvements on the circuitry used

The mk-3 model has what Panasonic calls a “Fast GPS-3W”
I have not tried a mk-3 yet but I would think it’s a better than my mk-2 standard model

Btw; I have a cf-29 that Teo modded for me with the Sarantel aftermarket antenna and the SiRFstar III chipset and it receives 35% more sats than the standard built-in gps
