Went to strip a CF30 of its GPS unit and the antenna wire goes else where when tracing the wire to the right hinge. In the videos YouTube shows it run along with other wire. This is not the case.....tbis is supposed to be easy as 1 2 3 according to Bob Johnson.

Why not follow the antenna lead to see where it goes?
Chances are it goes to a pass-thru on the rear of the laptop which Bob J's didn't have (probably).
You don't NEED to have a pass-thru, but can connect the antenna directly to the GPS board.

yeah ... the pass through .
it is a bit confusing sometimes as the wire from the gps antenna is a different color than the one that comes up near the gps module .

Now I wish I installed the pass thru wire (I did remove it from pc) that way I can run a external antenna if necessary.

The factory pass thru only works when connected to a docking station.
I recall one of the regulars here installed a threaded fitting for an external antenna

I would like to find a GPS antenna fast enough to get me through the Dallas High Five at rush hour.

Oh, so it's only good for the dock. That make sense. Not worth the hassle of installing the white wire that's under the main board.

What do you mean, What happened to that mod.?
I used the external connector until I sold the laptop.
I probably still have the modded pass through somewhere at home.

The thread explained how to do the mod.
The mod worked fine until I put the brass cap on.
The brass cap shorted the gps module and needed to be removed.
Without the brass cap, the mod works great.
