I am new to this forum...
I have got'n my hands on 20 CF-29's and 9 Getac P470. The Panasonic are easy to get info and parts for. But, the p470's, can not even find 1 for sale on the internet..? can some one direct me to a place to get parts, and im curious of the value of these laptops. does anyone know the history of these, where they made just for Military use? I got these from the DOD. 2.0 Ghz, touchsreen, bluetooth, gps, backlit keys. Thank you Very Much.....

Problem with a lot of the systems that the DoD uses Toughbooks for- they are classified. Computers that touch a classified network become classifed themselves and thus have to be handled as such when removed from service.....in other words, destroyed as I understand it. Anything that has memory, to include printers and all computers. And yet despite all the secuirity, the system still allows jackass Private Manning to download thousands of pages and release them. Go figure.

im ex military... Air Force.... well... the units have had all the hard drives removed, of-course...!! i use to be the one, while on active duty, "red-tagging" the laptops and removing any information from them.. now semi-retired, im buying them back... i just got 75 units,, and can get thousands more... I still cant find any info, or parts for these p470, my best guess is they are very similar to B300..

They look comparable to the Semi-rugged CF-74 and CF-52 series. I have a Getac V100 but haven't done much with it.

    hi all

I am posting for the benefit of others, (please don't flame)

Getac while well built is NOT AND NEVER WILL be a consumer, that is civilian product. they will only service them while under contract or warranty. Almost exclusively used by GOVERMENT. They will almost never answer any emails from civilians as they sell to GOVERMENT. The units found on the internet are decommissioned and usually have hard drives and caddies gone, very rare to find and caddies used on internet and even then EXPENSIVE, usually TWICE the price of any thing Toughbook( NO reference to quality). The best way to get Getac laptop is to buy it WHOLE, no missing parts otherwise it a boat anchor!!!!............................................ :)

Now that I got that done , I moved on to TOUGHBOOKS, because of quality and I could actually find parts and software at better quality and price, PLUS Panasonic is way more friendly to inquiries and requests. So now I own quite a few!!!!!......................................... :)

" ...i just got 75 units, and can get thousands more..." True that--- and not to highjack this thread but would like to add, over the years I've bought govt surplus vehicles on auction myself and looking around at their different auction locations, at times there are thousands of surplus laptops out there (in bulk quantities) but I personally would need to be better financed--- read that not broke--- to bid, win, and then travel out of sate to haul away the booty.

That said, and have considered it myself, one could surely make an income off selling all kinds of govt surplus, just gotta' know your stuff about what you're buying and what the market is for said surplus.

    my $.02 cents:thumbsup:
