You can put together your own kit. If you have the schematics you can get the pinout, buy the parts and have a kick-butt system that is even better than OEM.

Please post you exact model number and I'll email you a zipped file with Service Manual, Schematics and board layout diagrams... Should be CF-30XXXXXXX.

You can find this either in the BIOS (F2 at boot) or on the bottom label. The parts are available via many online vendors for GPS engine and antenna... Then, depending on how you want to mount the antenna... You can use what is existing or buy just the outer part for the LCD.... The three parts needed for that I think run around $25 total.

So $50 for a GPS engine, $25 shipped for an antenna and another $25 for parts or so.... For a little over $100USD and a little effort you could bedazzle your Toughbook.

But you should know that by opening your Toughbook you will void your warranty, if you have any to start with, and you will need basic skills and tools to handle the job.

I just email it as a zipped file. All manuals come to about 21MB.... So I hope your email provider will allow that. If not... I can try them one at a time. They are MK2 manuals which is the lastest that I have... but all should be the same for what you are looking for.

There are two ways to install a gps engine on the CF-30 unit internally. One is below the keyboard and the other one is on the WWAN sled area. I forgot the connector no. but its there waiting to activate/ hook it up on the expansion slot at anytime.

    Hi
i have ordered a kit from custom toughbooks, the one with 50 channels. i still would like to rig up an antenna at the top of the screen, so any suggestions would help on that.

many thanks for all the help.

If you want to install the antena at the top of LCD. I suggest to buy an Oem type set and if you can't or nowhere to score one, try taoglas antena. It can be install on the wlan antena side but you need to do some modding. This is my next project to my newly acquired cf-30MK2. So far I need extra cover for Wlan antena at right hand corner.

I too am looking for a donor CF-30 for modding in a good GPS System..... I just wish sales would pick up... There are so many "professional sellers" on ebay now(Most are scams)... I almost wish I hadn't posted my mods here to start things off... Ther really only like 2-3 people on ebay that know how to do it right... The rest relay on kits or buying stuff from others to get it done.
    BAH!

Rick! due to my addiction to toughbook I just bought another CF-30Mk2 unit barebone which is to expensive. I don't know how it happen but it happened to fast,Lol. I used a different module to the CF-30MK2 model that I sold locally a couple week ago and it was supposed to be to "Gabriel" but I mistakenly ship the one with the OEM one.

Here are the specs http://eni.so-buy.com/ezfiles/eni/img/img/109973/FV-15LCatalog.pdf It is also a 20channel. I only consider this as it is very small form factor that was easy to integrate.

I haven't yet try the em408 but I will try it next. Hope it will be the same as the other with a good result.
