Hi, I've recently obtained a CF-27 to replace my CF-25 and ran
into a, hopefully minor, problem. After installing the hard drive from my CF-25 into the CF-27, I can no longer boot into one of the partitions. The drive was set up for both FreeBSD and Windows-95; before, I could press F1 or F2 to boot into the chosen OS. Now, only Windows-95 is accessible, and not even
that's useful since a driver is needed that I don't have. Is there usually a problem with installing a hard drive from a CF-25 into a CF-27?
When I depress the F2 key to boot into FreeBSD, the system just beeps at me. F2 key is working, since I could enter the BIOS setup utility. The system not just refuses to boot FreeBSD, like it's no longer there on the drive. I'd just reinstall FreeBSD, but I just discovered something else: the CF-25's CD-ROM won't work in the CF-27... ah well, something else to purchase.
Happy new year and thanks for any advice that anyone can kindly provide!

Hi, I am afraid I can not help you with your upgrade problem, however I am sure you may be able to point me in the right direction.
Have recently aquired a CF-25 hoping to use it for some undemanding low spec logging etc,. A Cf-25 just the job, however on running it I find that it has a very badly installed version of Windows 95 and not much else, a suspect battery but a good power supply and a good BIOS backup battery. As I have never owned a CF-25 before and do not have any manuals for it, I know very little about this laptop/notebook so I have some questions you may well know the answers to, so here goes:-
1. As I said there seems to be very little software on it other than Win 95, should there be any dedicated Panasonic management software installed? If so do you know any web sites that I can download from?
2. I can not get into the BIOS setup, I presume F1 should do it or is there other key strokes required?
3. Have a CD-Rom drive (Brand New) to swap with the Floppy drive, have tried it but the system probably needs setting up to recognize it,? Although th MP light flashes on boot up but drive will not read disk nor is it shown in device manager in Win 95.
I do hope you can give me a clue as it is a shame to write it off as scrap for want of abit of TLC. -
-small help-
I just picked up a CF-28. eBay. Received it a few hours ago.
I spent a little time sniffing around the web for "this and that". The CF-27/ 28/ and 29 seem to have some interchangeable parts.
MOFFS- try F2. Mine uses that. Otherwise I know nothing of the -25. -
Sound's like a bootloader/bios issue. Some BIOS' don't like booting to a partition over cylinder 1024. I know next to nothing about BSD, unfortunately. You may need to reinstall BSD. If you don't format the BSD partition, you may not lose your user's files/config, just root's. Some of that may need to change for the new hardware anyway.
