Hey guys, I posted this question in the 7,200 HD thread but was afraid it would not get read. I have installed a new Hitachi HTS 7,200 RPM drive. It is 60 gig if that matters. What I notice is that my HD activity light below my touchpad NEVER goes out. It lights up nice and bright when you would expect it to while working then goes to a half lit state when it should be in idle? anybody have any ideas. Thanks just confused

Half lit state? Maybe there's just a light-leak in your laptop panel. Thats my guess. As long as theres still a distinction between "Fully lit- working" and "Half lit-idle" then i wouldn't worry about it :p Those lights are normally just 1-on or 0-off. Not in between.

Mine shows an HD presence by being half lit - disk access by lighting up fully.

    (wish I could stay in a half-lit/fully-lit state. Obviously waterwizard11 is. ;P~~~~~~~)

HMMMM - just never noticed. I am sitting here looking at another 28 (800) with an HTS 5,400 in it and no light when at idle - that's what got me to notice it.

    - Gotta love the Dell guys - Thanks

Maybe it has to do with power saving issues.
Mine (800) has a 5400 RPM drive. Never noticed the light go completely out.

    Hi,
I have the same disk (Hitachi 60G 7200RPM), and it does the same.
Never had a issue with it, so don't be afraid.
