Unbelievable. I'd rather have W7 with a virus than W10 x64 so far, but endeavouring to persevere.
CF-31MXCAXF9 Mk II can't turn off touchpad taps. By design in W10 apparently. Even at the lowest sensitivity setting it clicks accidentally all the damn time.
Random other faults including broken fonts in Chrome and Firefox but not in Edge. WiFi switches itself off randomly despite time outs being set to "never" and won't turn back on for a couple of minutes after a restart. Keyboard language resets to UK from US at each switch off (I need access to both) - cursor disappears/reappears somewhere else, blocks of text are highlighted randomly.
Seems ridiculous to me that "settings" can be accessed by about 4 or 5 different paths and some options apparently differ depending on the path chosen.
No wonder they made it impossible to go back to W7.
Anyone think a clean install will make the difference?
I 'upgraded'... pfft... in case I needed anything from 'windows old' - I knew it might be a mistake but had nowhere else to store it.
I know the MK II isn't W10 supported but I've seen the same complaints online about much newer machines from different manufacturers.
Shawn in another thread linked to a .cab file of Mk III drivers.
It's a 1.1Gb download and I'm running on empty so - does anyone know if it worked out OK on Toughbook's MK II?
Thanks!

Hmmm.
I have Win 10 on a FZ-Q2, a CF-52 mk4 and a CF-19mk6.
I have not experienced the problems that you have.
The Q2 was an install using an OEM recovery image as far as I recall.
The CF-52 was an upgrade install from Win 7.
The CF-19 was probably an upgrade install, but I do not recall at all.
I always set touchpad to require double clicks.
I always install Classic shell to make things smoother to use. http://www.classicshell.net/
The WIFI power issue settings are in 2 locations. That is the same as Win 7. One is in the driver in device manager. The other is in advanced power options. Set both to maximum performance.
I always set Windows 7 and 10 to never sleep or hibernate. Just set it to turn off screen in 2-3 minutes. Modern SSD's don't use enough power to make hibernate or sleep worth the trouble they cause for me.
I would grab a USB stick (they are cheap) and copy off the entire windows.old folder.
Then do a clean install of Win 10. Try the newer drivers in the cab file if needed. Win 10 will have most of the needed drivers pre installed.unclemack likes this. -
Thanks guys, much appreciated - I wrote more but the site logged me out and erased it as I clicked on 'Post Reply' - not seen that in a while.
Cheers! -
Why is the mk2 not supported by win 10?
Is there a list of unsupported models somewhere ? -
Geraout, that was an assumption on my part based on searching the Panasonic website for drivers - I think I checked every MK2 version of the CF-31 and no W10 drivers were shown on any of them.
Checked some Mk3 versions and W10 drivers were listed for all.
I think I've read somewhere here that Panasonic has no plans to update drivers for earlier models, but even I don't trust my memory so probably better to ask someone else
Shawn, I didn't install Classic Shell for fear of problems with it being no longer supported by the developer. I'll give it a try again - liked it OK trying W8 years ago.
Only 2 or 3 bluescreens I've ever had were on wake after hibernate or sleep - I've shut down every time for 10 years or more. Got SSD's in the 19 and 31 that I still use daily.
Wifi is slow where I am, fell asleep waiting for the .cab file to dl & woke to see the wifi had crashed after an hour...
Settings for the MK2 Versa touchpad don't have the options one would expect but for some reason the accuracy of placing the cursor, which was bad in W7, is now good.
When my new mbb sim arrives I'll get back on it.
Thanks again! -
It was only Googling 'hands.dll' and seeing results in what looked like Russian that reminded me - I erased the HDD that came with this CF-31 from Russia because I couldn't, even with assistance from the seller (nice guy) recognise the Cyrillic for 'US' or 'UK' or whatever it was I was stuck on that stopped me changing the language with either the English or the Russian keyboard.

OK so this time I clicked on a hands.dll result - hands n brain - a geek joke about non-geeks.
I don't just admit to being one - I celebrate it. -
It's definitely a forum bug, my screenshot was there

Ok, another one
p.s. If someone has a problem to read in russian/ukrainian - don't hesitate, ask me, I can helpUNCNDL1 likes this.
