    Hello again all,
I appologize if this has been hashed out, but I am only on page 40 of the posts, and didn't see it yet, so here goes! --ducking low-- ;)

I have Touchsreen Toughbooks (Not Digitizer), and wanted handwriting recognition. Unless you are running Office 2003 or Office XP, this is not possible on Windows XP as it stands. Microsloth has passed that functionlity on to Vista and Win 7. As an exxperienced and well versed system designer and programmer, I don't take NO WAY very easily!! So, I did some research and found and accepted and working solution that many friends are using to do development on Xp Pro computers for Tablet PCs. So:

First, Go here and get the Software Developers Kit for Windows Tablet PC version 1.7.
You can find it here or at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...83-A821-40BC-AA85-C9EE3D6E9699&displaylang=en

The go and get the Windows XP Tablet PC 2005 Recogniser Pack.
You can find it here or at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...dd-5e92-4464-b907-10762e9f918b&displaylang=en

Install the SDK first, then the Recogniser pack and you're good to go.

I'm running Windows XP, sp3 with Office 2007 and everything seems to work fine HOWEVER, this is on a NON-TOUCHSCREEN desktop!! ;)

I will let you know after I get a chance to test this. I do have friends using this on touchscreens, just not toughbooks, and they report it as VERY stable.

The first program makes XP stable for running the Tablet Components. THIS is the MAJOR difference.. ENJOY AT OWN RISK-NO WARRANTY EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED!! (now that the disclaimer is done) HAVE FUN - MAYBE write a new cool toughbook application!! heheheh ;) :D

K1SFD - I am a little confused with your post. Are you saying with XP Pro + Office 2003 on a touchscreen CF-18, I can use ink?

I am currently having trouble getting ink to work in Office 2003 (ink option is installed) under XP Pro with my CF-18. The ink function works well with my other Tablet PCs.

Office 2003 and Office Xp were the last releases that Handwriting Recog was included in the Office package. It was decided that HR would become part of the OS, but not until Vista on. Apparently Win7 is turining out to be quite the OS BTW. All the functionality of Vista, with the overhead and speed of XP. Office 2003 needed 'One Note' loaded with 'run all from computer' selected for the best HR experience.

To help more I would need to know what you are having problems with. If it's a matter of accuracy with the touchscreen, that is one of the inherant difficulties with not having the digitizer. I had to learn how to watch the screen where I am writing, not where it was showing up on the screen. Granted it's only off by a mm or two, but it can still be frustrating.

Let me know exactly what's happening and I *should* be able to help you out. At the very least I can point you in the right direction. Like I mentioned in my origional post, I have used this set-up on non-TB machines, so take appropriate percautions. I plan on imaging my drive before try this on my TBs so I have an easy restore point to return to.

I'm going to be on and off today, so I will get back to you as soon as I can.
