Just double-click on My Computer and you should see it there.
Sorry, couldn't resist. -
go into your garage and find a crowbar, a good sized sledgehammer, and a pair of work goggles. get medieval on it for a good twenty minutes. if that doesn't work, get your hands on some industrial-grade explosives and place them at two inch intervals along the sides of the notebook...
after completing either method use some elmer's glue to assemble the broken pieces of the hdd together, and you are set! -
Sorry im not a geek.Couldn't resist. Done plenty of home PC's ,but I know nothing about notebooks, and I do not want to damage it.Thanks for nothing.

Find the form factor of HDD. I am concerned it is a 9.5mm vs 12.5 so it limits options. As far as accessing it? What do you have? what do you want? Then I will dig on the DeLL site.

Guys,
Lay off the newbie.
@jdewees299.
I moved your threads to the Panisonic forum where you should get more precious help if you need it. -

lots of discusion in the threads here on hard drive replacement on the 29 and 28.
You will find any info you need here as it's been covered in detail.
Do you have an existing hard drive / caddy or did your 29 come without?

You are now in the right place. It's being far too kind to call them smart asses! Non-Toughbook types seem to jump in here and make fools of themselves on a regular basis. As Tomcat said, read the FAQ and then come back with any questions you might have. Your project is much simpler than you think, finding the info you need is half the fun as you get to wade through the witty comments of some of the regulars while learning what you need to know. Certainly more fun than TV Sit-Coms. Welcome,

jd,
As the Captain and Tomcat suggested; everything you ever wanted to know about your Toughbook can be found on this site.
There are factory repair manuals, operator manuals, drivers, links, modifications and a lot of adult leadership to help you out. I've been around for just a little while; but I'm still reading archived posts and learning.
Heck, when I first got my 29, I didn't even know how to load a driver for some of the features of my 29 MK2. The great folks on this forum have saved me many times. -
Hi! welcome to forum, On the palmrest area at right side there is latch slide it forward and it will open the cover. Then you will see a plastic tab, pull it to get the harddrive and caddy. Look and find a tutorial somewhwre here for hardrive installation.
BTW, this guy, trump....probably frustrated with his crap gateway and trying to be funny as Gravitar said he didn't ad the smiley face to complete as I do that when I am trying to be funny, don't mind that kind of person.

I recently got a CF-29 too, welcome to the cult.
Anyhow, upgrading the HD was the first thing I did, amongst plans for other things (finished a DVD-RW upgrade, just haven't posted it yet.) Learning from this site from the ToughGurus, the problem I found was that info was spead out everywhere and was difficult to find.
So I went out to start a ToughWiki... and since you're looking for HD upgrade info, here's the page... unofficially: http://www.philpang.com/toughwiki/index.php?title=CF-29_Hard_Drive_Replacement
I followed Toughbook's posted instructions, which worked but his pictures are gone, so I just paraphrased his instructions and took my own pictures! -
Great post,
your making it easy for the new guy! -
Thanks... it'll be at www.toughwiki.com if anyone else wants to check it out... you'll have to register to edit/add pages.
All I have done so far are the CF-29 pages since that's what I have, so obviously I'm more interested in mods to the 29.
Once it's more complete I'll announce/roll it out officially. -
Trust me; if I can swap a hard drive in a 29; ANYONE can swap a hard drive in a 29!
Someone once suggested that I take photos as I was taking things apart; really sound advice. I'm one of those sissys that thinks if it can be screwed up, I'll do it.
