Hope this is an acceptable topic !
Basically as its nearly Xmas, I would like to give someone a CF-51 I have. However the Scrooge in me wants to keep my HM160HC!
This came with an OS on it which worked and I painstakingly downloaded all the necessary drivers. This was before I saw the light of the correct recovery disc! Unfortunately its a MK1 not a MK3 so I don't have the correct disc.
So what do I need to migrate the usable OS over to a more modest HD and can somebody sort of give me a few pointers?
    Cheers!

Well what you need is Acronis True Image Home . You can download a free 30 day trial and I find it the best one to use. It will make a perfect image of the hdd for you. I am guessing you want to put it on a smaller drive?

Also if you buy this make sure you buy the new one out 2010 and up . They support Windows 7 and the older ones don't.

Windows 7! Haven't made it past XP yet!
I guess I am more interested in the actual process itself. For the CF-51, I guess I need to source an external HD case (IDE). Is it just a matter of hooking that up with the other HD and running the software or do I have to format the other HD so its blank? Yet another education coming up I fear!
Yep, it will be to a smaller HD. Looks like the price for the Samsung has gone up. I was thinking of using that 40GB Travelstar that came with that MK3 I bought recently. I can then use the Samsung in that with the recovery disc so its all hunky dory!
He would still be getting a decent MK1 with 1GB ram and 40GB for nowt (nothing!) so shouldn't complain.

Can't remember if you have to format it or not but it will not take long if you have to. When I get home I will look at the software but it is very easy to use.

You have to put the target drive in the laptop to clone with Acronis. They don't make this especially clear so save your self some time. Source (current)disk in external case or one of the usb jumpers, target (new) drive in the laptop. Make the Acronis boot disk and do it outside of Windows. Other than that Acronis is easy to use and will do a lot more than clone drives.
