...and yes, I've searched and followed directions in the FAQ and other threads :p.

I have the original Win 98 HD and all works great. For experimenting, I have a spare caddy and HD that I use to play with.

I installed XP Pro and it works great with 192MEGS of Ram and the PII 300, but the touchscreen just will not work. I've installed and uninstalled the drivers available and all goes according to how it should, though it does not.

    Any other tips at all?

If it works in w98 it will work in xp

    http://panasonic.ca/PDP/Drivers/cf27_mk2_w2k_tscreen.exe
    Are the drivers you need
When you extract and run the program, you have to go into device manager and make sure in mouse properties the touchsreen driver is there.
If it isn't you have to change your mouse properties by updating the driver, and selecting the driver file where you unextracted the driver file. c:\util\drivers\tscreen
You might have to force the change in device manager

Well, it still does not work despite numerous tries.

Installing and uninstalling, extracting with different programs and to different folders.

UPDD is installed and all tests, etc. come up, but the touchscreen still will not function... :-(

I hope you find this useful and not too out of date...

I went through all of this myself and can say that ALL of the drivers others recommended to me without exception didn't work. I put this on another forum like over 2 years ago! (codingforums - 11/2006) I've checked the site and links are still active - if you have any trouble, let me know and I can mail you the drivers or something.

    http://www.fujitsu.com/emea/services/components/touchpanels/drivers.html

Is where the touchscreen drivers live. The one to choose is under ps/2 interface and is the '4-wire' version with __ in the 'Notes' column.

    Notes (from me):
I can only say this driver works on model number cf-27-fcc*** series machines (the ones with the 13~" screen using the Fujitsu panel)

I'm on XPpro but there are a stack of drivers in the package so home etc. should work.

Best of luck with this, it took me a couple of months to find but it worked within 5 minutes.

    Touchscreen activation

If you've got a touchscreen, you may be pulling your hair out trying to get it to work. Once you figure it out it's easy, but it's tricky that first time.

Start by getting some drivers (use the above section's links). Run the installer. Once it's done, open up your System control panel, go to the Hardware tab, and click on Device Manager.

Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" hardware, and double click on the mouse (PS/2 Compatable mouse) that it found. This will open up a new window.

Click on the driver tab, and click on "Update Driver". On the next screen, select "No, not this time" and hit next. On the next screen, select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)", and hit next again. Choose the option "Don't search. I will choose a driver to install", and hit next again.

Select "Have Disk...", and browse to the directory C:\util\drivers\mouse , and open up the folder inside (it'll be different for different OS's), and select the Fidmou.inf file inside of that folder. Once the file is selected, hit Ok, and it should start installing.

Once it's installed, you'll need to restart the OS to use it. When it's rebooted, you'll see a new icon in the system tray next to the clock. Right click on the icon that looks like a poorly drawn mouse in front of a monitor, and go to Calibrate. Use a rounded hard device (Pencil eraser, rounded pen caps, etc) to get the X's as close as possible. The closer you get this, the better your touchscreen will operate.
This is the same for the CF-27 and the CF-28

for interest - on a fresh xp install, my machine does not find a 'ps/2 compatible mouse' just an 'unknown device' hence my using the fujitsu driver. Nothing on the panasonic.ca site site is the latest available driver for my 27 with xp pro.

One drawback (I suppose) is that I do not get calwin in the system tray - an equivalent calibration utility is in start -> all programs -> fujitsu touch panel

You don't know ANYTHING about Toughbooks, please don't post mis-leading information ronnieb!

Their are two different types of touchscreens ronnieb, a digitizer and a touchscreen.. 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS... the CF-27 had a NORMAL touchscreen NOT a digitizer, hence XP Pro and NOT tablet!

Not all the CF-27's have the same touch controller, for the 300MHZ and lower you need the Universal Pointer driver (UPDD) Serial port version. The PII 333MHZ and PIII 500MHZ are the only ones that use the Fujitsu/Takasawi PS2 driver same as the CF-28.

If anyone needs it I have a list from Panasonic of all the CF-27 drivers in .txt format which actually lists each driver by model # and operating system. PM me for the list. It was on the disk I sent Modly, but it might be hard to find there. I'm pretty sure I have all the drivers as well. If you get the list and find the driver I"ll be happy to send it to you.
