Hello everybody, I have a problem I hope someone can help me with. I think I also need a motherboard, I have a CF29FTTG2KM. The problem is the sound, I listen to internet radio in my shop through the laptop and it was great till a day or so ago, now you can start listening and after a min or so the sound goes all scratchy and wierd sounding, I have tried external speakers still no luck, I have played a CD in it and it plays CD just fine so that tells me my speakers are fine, whats wierd is when your listening to the internet radio and it goes funny you can pause the song and wait a min and hit play and it plays fine again for a second or so, and its not just music it does it on videos and everything with sound.......except CDs. And getting back to the motherboard issue someone said it might be my soundcard but from what I understand thats part of motherboard? And if I do replace the motherboard is that just a plug and play deal or do I have to do any special stuff. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

When you say videos do you mean watching videos on the net or downloaded to your hdd ? I have had this problem in the past and it was my wifi card not connecting good enough...need to be stronger

I mean watching on the net, like youtube, streetfire, etc. Seems like anything I try to listen to online plays good for a min or 2 then.....no good. This cf29 had the little wires runninig up to the little black bumpers on top of the lid so I put a wireless card in it about a year ago and it has worked great till now. I also have a cf18 in my shop and I tried it, plays radio great.

Yes, they can throttle it down. Sprint/Embarq/whatever it is now does it to me if I go over a certain amount of download bytes.

Check your drivers and what about the thermal pads??

You say your 18 works fine in the shop then it must be the 29 then. l would say your wifi card is not pulling in a good signal . Just to see what happens move it closer to the router.

Im thinking soundcard but from what I have been told soundcard is part of motherboard. true? and how bad is it to change motherboard and where should I get one from? If it was the soundcard would CDs still play fine, it plays CDs fine, just nothing over the net. I like listening to Pandora or AOL Radio in my shop.

    Yes it is...built onboard

Myself I would look around for a 1.6 MK4 or 5 and put your hdd caddy and cd in it

That's why I say your sound card is fine. What kind of wifi card do you have in your 29 and how much memory do you have installed in it.
Have you tried a movie that has been downloaded to your hdd and see what happens.

Drivers are the software that tells the soundcard / motherboard how to operate.

Thermal pads should be a square about 1/2 inch that is stuck on the bottom inside of the case. Sorta looks like modeling clay. It transfers the heat from the cpu to the case. Otherwise the motherboard gets too hot and does odd things.

I suspect that you did not replace it by the way you talked about adding the wireless card. And you don't know what the thermal pad is. Anytime you take off the bottom of a cf 29 you have to replace the pads.

A cf 29 uses the case as a heatsink.

ok here goes.......I updated my driver, still dont know about the thermal pads, I put in the wireless card about a year ago and its been fine till now. As for the wireless card it was a EnGenius EMP 8602 Plus-S. I checked memory and under system memory it said 1200MB, under primary master it said 500GB all that was in the bios. I also checked C-drive and it said 452 GB free space. And as for downloading a movie, I downloaded an old Red Skelton episode this morning it was 15 min. long and it played and sounded great. Then I tried Pandora......good for about a min. then crap, Im still confused.

Well the way I see it there is nothing wrong with your sound card or your pads and you got the best wifi card installed unless its ready to go south on you. If you played a movie that would of heated things up but it sounds like it worked great. I tried to run pandora on mine but no go :( .This is what I got
I would try to find another program to run internet radio and see what happens
