Several months ago I acquired a CF28 off of ebay and all is fine with the computer. I have done tons of reading here and have learn a lot. Thanks to all. In trying to upgrade this unit, I got a Atheros 5006X wireless card and installed it. Worked great other than the signal. Pretty poor. I then ordered some paddle antennas and just did get them installed behind the screen panel. JOY JOY....tons of signal without the screen panel on.
Well........herein is my problem. I started messing around in the client utility and didn't think I changed anything, but now after installing the back cover and starting to put this thing back together.....I have no signal what so ever.
In the WLAN Client Utility under Link Status, it says Not Associated and it is also scanning for channels.
I ran a trouble shoot and all is well until the association test and it fails.
I am sure I changed something but I don't know what. I am not running any security as I live in the country and my nearest neighbor is a ways away.
Any help would be great.........
Thanks
Bruce

Open the client utility, go to profile management, make sure that default is highlighted then click on modify. You can change the default name if you wish or leave it. Type in your computer's name on the line for client name, make sure that it is spelled correctly. Then click on the security tab. Then select your router's security type, click configure and type in the password for your router click ok and you are done. If you entered everything correctly the card will then connect to your router or access point. Good luck welcome to the forum and let us know how it goes.

I assume you're using Atheros Client Utility. Make sure radio signal is ON, and you didnt click "Use Windows for configuration". Then, on the main screen, click "Adanced", what do you see ?
If you dont have any signal, i suggest you try the wireless card you were using before to check if there is power coming to the port. -
I have the backing plate off now and still no signal at all.......I have done all I know what to do....reboot....disable radio, enable radio, checked client utility etc. It's just like it shut off.....completely.

Further
Yes to all. I have signal just card won't connect. Says "Not Associated" on Current Status page of Client Utility. As I said....this worked great before I started putting the computer back together. Have checked for pinched wires etc........NONE -
Sandfantom,
If you did not insulate the antenna's with plastic tape, i think you short circuit the output of the wlan card by putting the magnesium plate back on.
That can cause death of your card.
Any way, you wont getting any signal behind the screen back plate. -
try reseting the router make sure your ip isnt conflicting with aniother divice, in you home.

If you think the utility is messed, uninstall the utility and driver. Make sure its uninstalled/removed from the device manager too.
Go to the original install folder (probably in C:\Program Files) for the utility and delete it if the uninstaller did not already remove it. There may be wireless profiles in there that could be misconfigured.
Restart the machine and let Windows find it. It may reinstall the driver automatically. If not, direct it to the correct drivers or run the exe for the driver install. Then you should be able to reinstall the utility.
Should not have to go through all this but this should give you a clean slate.
Also try pulling the plug on the router to reset. I've seen routers hang after power surge etc. Just another variable to eliminate.
Also make sure the little SMA connectors on the card and coax are not boogered. They are pretty small and easy to bend or incorrectly seat etc.
You should also be able to Rx the router without the card antennas if you have the laptop right next to the router antennas. There should be enough rf radiation for the card to pick up sans antennas.

Ok! Good deal I was trying while you fixed.
