That was for the sled and the modem. I think the modem was just under $100. I can post the part number when I get back to the office tomorrow.

Ya, post in the WTB thread so that TB won't get into any kind of trouble. We really need to keep the B/S/T stuff there.
Thanks for understanding, -
The actual Gobi card is $159.92 and the part number is: T77Z039.02 The Gobi Wireless Kit for CF-30 is $108.45 and the part number is: CF-WEW30008
Hope this helps you guys out.
I would not trust throwing the Gobi card into an earlier sled just to see if it works and end up burning up the device. Since the new sled goes by a newer part number and the Sim card is optional but not needed (with Verizon or Sprint), I think that the sleds, while they look about the same, may not be compatible (does anyone remember the old Apple keyboards that were the same as a PC but if you exchanged them, you could fry your system?)
Maybe I'm just being paranoid...Just know my WWAN card it now working and I don't want to mess it up. -
I spoke with a representative at heartland, and she told me I would have to send in my laptop to have the gobi modem installed, or it would void my warranty. My CF-30 is "wireless ready," do you believe this? She would not let me just purchase the modem. Does the part number: T77Z039.02 include the sled as well? or does that come with the wireless kit?

I was told several months ago that, from now on, everyone must send in their laptops to have these modems installed. Then there were reports that people ordered them. The problem is that you get 150 parts and have to KNOW how to put them all together. If you don't EXACTLY what you are doing... and then you try to start your laptop... You may fry not only your modem but the whole laptop. Heartland has had to deny claims for some things because of this... So yes... You can probably still buy it and do it yourself... But you will lose your warranty. It would be similar to overhauling your engine in your car and then trying to make a warranty claim when it throws a rod because it wasn't put back together correctly.
-
Well, since I am planning on swapping to an SSD, I figure that will void the warranty as well. Being an electrical engineer, I don't think I will have any trouble putting together the sled/modem, especially with the instructions provided in this thread.
-
portok....As being an electrical eng'r( a profession that I am being wasted for almost 7 years now) you know the basic function of electronics component, so I say it is not a problem to you as long as you assemble the sled correctly.

Thanks! I think I only have a 1 year warranty on this machine anyway, which will be up in no time... I still need an answer to this question though:
Does the part number: T77Z039.02 include the sled as well? or does that come with the wireless kit?
Basically, since my laptop is "wireless ready," meaning all I need to do is add the sled/modem, no other mods required, what do I all need to order? -
I'm on the road and don't have all my schematics and service manuals with me... But that doesn't look like a Heartland part number... Not one I've ever seen. But yes... When you get it built it should just slide in an work... After you install all the software.

anyone have any input on this?

Well, I bought one of the AT&T WWAN Sled with Novatel Expedite EU730 off ebay and took out my working OEM GPS and installed the sled. It did not show up in the BIOS and windows found it but it would say “Your WWAN client adaptor is disabled”. Since you would normally turn this on in the BIOS and it was not present in the BIOS. I said screw it and put back my OEM GPS. It did show up in the BIOS as it should but now it will not show up in windows. I even restored the CF-29(mk4) to factory and still no com3 in windows for the OEM GPS. Now the WWAN switch won't light up. I think I fried the sled.
-
Recon... Please don't ask the same question in multiple threads... It makes answering the questions that much harder and searching for an answer in the future even worse...
-
I do beleive that there is an update for the bios prior to HSDPA WWAN module and for your gps it may move to other com port like 4,5 and so on or changed its resources.

Very sorry of my post in "multiple threads". However, I did get the GPS working after I restored the BIOS to factory defaults. I had done this before. However it took more than one time. The WWAN is still on the sled but I have no green light now but the GPS is working. I also took apart the CF-29 and re-seated all my ribbon connectors still no joy. I hope I did not fry the internal parts of the WWAN. I would think it is just the WWAN on the sled that is busted.
-
I might throw a Option GTM378 PCI-E Mini WWAN Card 3G HSDPA 7.2mbps on the sled and see what happens. If it works, it would be a great bargain at $56.
Help! Just got my Gobi card in...pile of parts
