Hi all, been a member for a while (mostly just reading and taking it all in) and I`ve gained some invaluable help from the people in the panasonic forum but I`ve got a problem that I`m conpletely stumped on!
I`ve recently made the jump from my venerable old mk2 CF-28 to a mk3 CF-18, I got it for a really good price as a non working unit, I`ve replaced the motherboard and got it up and running and now I`m just working through the faults as I find them.
The main problem I have at the minute is I just cannot get the touchscreen to work, I`ve reinstalled the drivers several times, had the screen apart to make sure it does have a touchscreen (it does) treble checked all the connections on the motherboard and all seem fine. The worrying part is I did find a thread saying there are two different kinds of touchscreen on these and they are not interchangable, mine came with a pen built into the screen but no label on the bottom with a product number, when I replaced the motherboard it did have a slightely different part number, the original was DL3UP1425BAA and the one I replaced it with was DL3UP1425DAA, the bios states my product number is CF-18FDH25VE, I dont know what the original was as the motherboard was dead. The only other info I can think to mention is in device manager under pointing devices it does say touchpad/touchscreen, there is a problem with something called "wacom serial pen tablet" this device cannot start (code 10) also there is an unknown device and I`m pretty sure I`ve installed all the drivers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I`d love the touchscreen to work and it would be very use for my job.
Thanks in advance
John

You have a digitizer
I wonder if the motherboard that you swapped in incompatable with that panel
Did you read the thread here on driver order for installing xp on the cf-18
The driver order is very important

That was my fear but I cant find any info about motherboards/compatability anywhere, I`ve not seen that thread can you link to it if poss?
Thanks for the reply

For driver order
Read post # 58
That guy knows his Toughbooks

The model number, from the bios, of your new motherboard is for a digitizer model. Look at the slot for the stylus on the lower left side of your display, it should be pretty long, say 3/4" or so. Its hard to describe if you only have one machine to look at. That's the best way to determine the digitizer display by just looking. Does the stylus that came with your computer have a small button on the side?

Thanks for the replys folks, the pics made things easier
so mine looks to have the shorter slot which would make it the normal touchscreen version and the motherboard I`ve fitted is from a digitiser version? That would explain things a little
So where do I go from here and whats the difference between them? So far it`s not cost me a fortune so I dont mind spending a bit more to get the touchscreen working as thats the part I really wanted for veiwing wiring diagrams etc.
Thanks again for all the help I really do appreciate it -

@ jd-975
Hit F2 while booting
Look in the bios for a touchscreen option , and report your findings
Our Cf-18 expert is on vacation for another week , but I will try to help

@ Alex
Checked in bios and I have options to enable or disable touchscreen and under advanced options I can enable or disable digitizer Which pretty much confirms I have a digitizer motherboard, just a bit perplexed as to the difference at the minute. The biggest problem is the parts are not readily available in the UK for these.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to download and install from panasonic downloads a driver for the touchscreen yet
Check out device manager in windows and see if all devices are OK

You will need to find a motherboard for a Touchscreen model, or swap out your Touchscreen for a digitizer (maybe someone will trade screens with you?). Choose whichever option is cheaper, but as you have it now, it will not work.

@ Alex
Yeah I`ve tried every combination of drivers possible at this point and I always get the same result in device manager "wacom pen tablet device cannot start" which I`m guessing is the digitizer driver even though under pointing devices I do have touchscreen listed and enabled. Think I`m gonna have to bite the bullet and fork out some more money
@ Paul
Is there anyway of telling from the part number of the motherboard if it`s a touchscreen or digitizer? I`ve found another motherboard on the old flea bay part number DL3UP1395BAA but the seller does not know the model number or type it came out of.
Can anyone tell me what the difference in use is? I`m an auto electrician and bought this primarily for wiring diagrams as I thought it would be ideal being so compact I could have it beside me working under bonnets etc.
Thanks again for all your help -
So you want to know if the motherboard you got is from an original digitizer or touchscreen unit? Here is a quick way to tell, look in the space between the mini pci slot and the docking connector if you have a touchscreen unit there will be a chip soldered in place I believe it is IC39 this is an RS232-TTL driver chip for the serial port. The spot is not populated on a digitizer motherboard because digitizer units do not have a serial port.
