    Hi,
I have just joined the forum and would be very grateful for some advice. I have two Panasonic CF - 28 tough books. I need to send data received on one toughbook via GSM to a receiver I have. I don't know how or if this can be done. If not, can the sored data be sent via GPRS? I would prefer to send via GSM if possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards,
    Regiment23

GPRS is using GSM. U can send any data via GPRS (or better EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA) in a GSM-network to an other computer or mobilephone. There are a lot of prebuild solutions out there. Is it mission critical or not?

GPRS is using GSM, but GSM data can work without GPRS too.
I tried to understand the task, but can't really understand it :) Is that second receiver a PC too or specialized receiver device? What kind of data?
If both devices are PCs - you can use even email and forward it :))

Thanks for the reply. It is only data and not voice. This is to be sent from one of the toughbooks to a specialised GSM receiver. How would I set the toughbook to send the data via GSM? I need to receive data from a xbee unit onto the toughbook and stored in a file, then have the data relayed to the receiver. Unfortunately my background is not computer based. Many thanks.

    Kind regards,
    Regiment23.

I meant to ask what kind of prebuild solutions are available? Many thanks :)

Thank you for the info. The data i am sending is data from two sensors. This is received by the x bee which is connected to the USB port on the toughbook. I'm not sure how to operate the modem side of the toughbook. I'm assuming I would insert a SIM card into the card holder under the battery? I'm also unsure how to take the data coming in from the x bee and storing it in a file on the toughbook and then transmitting the file or data to the gsm receiver. The receiver uses a Telit GM 862 module. I also wish to show GPS location of the toughbook and cell tower location data. Many thanks.

    Kind regards,

fast solutions will u find i.e. here: Starter Kit - Round Solutions
What type of XBee are u using? Why do u want to use the Toughbook? I think it is not neccessary for this task :)
But if u want to go this street:
first short test: Tutorial: GSM Datacall Remote Dial in to GSM Modem using Phone and GSM modem
    real:
setup ur Xbee, like u need it, ie.: Configuring Xbees
build a batch with AT-commands "AT Commands" | "GSM MODEM AT Command Set" | Hayes AT Command Set - EngineersGarage
to initialize the modem and the connection
    start the connection
    start the data transfer
set a pipe from ur Xbee virtual com-port to the data-com-port of ur modem

This are only some thoughts, I was building selfmade GPS-tracker with CB-(Packet)Radio in the late 90s for horses and later with Siemens S25

That sounds an excellent solution, many thanks for that. There are three problems though. These are:
    1) I need to store the incoming data to the toughbook memory
2 I am out of time and have very little funds left
    3) I also need to know how I would set up the toughbook to send the data by GSM that is received by the x bee modem. This is to be sent to a GSM number.

I would be very grateful for any advice.

    Kind regards,
    Regiment23

i.e. COM20 is ur virtual com-port from ur Xbee
    COM27 is ur DATA-port from ur GSM-Modem
    1) make a redirect to a file: type com20: >> c:\data.log
    2) ..........
    3) type com20: >> com27 ; but u have to prepare the ports and the modem with the above described AT-Commands ;)

As I don't know ur configuration, this are only my thoughts from a far view :)
