So I bought the CF29 I was talking about in my earlier post its a CF-29HTM50BM. I know, I know its SBC! It was hard to pass up. It has 1.4ghz, 1g RAM, 40g HDD, new install of XP with COA, new install of office 2007 for $200 locally. All i need to get is an optical drive and a new battery. I searched the forum and got mixed answers to my problem. Now onto the TS issue. Here is what I have done so far to figure out what the problem is and hopefully you guys can help or suggest the next step.

    1. Checked BIOS and TS is enabled
    2. Updated driver from Panasonic website
    3. Updated driver from a thread from this website
    Still nothing....

    Help please!!

    Thanks
    Nick

Future plans include upgrading to 1.5g RAM, 802.11N, either upgrading internal HD or getting an external( this is my play computer and i dont need to put a bunch of junk on it), possibly a express card adapter for more USB ports.

    Many(most?) SBC CF-29's have a bad touchscreen.

As many will tell you , you are in the 90% range...meaning only 10% of the SBC have working touchscreens. If you are lucky you could pickup one up on fleabay for $100.00 .

The thing about the SBC is they were not looked after very good, left in hot trucks with the sun beating down on them which is very hard on the touchscreens

The price you paid is good but
if you had the restore disk you do not need the COA because the one that came with the 29 when new is stored inside the 29 so when you use the restore disk it finds it and puts it in for you so that is no big deal.

If its in good shape and all you need is a battery and cd you did alright, you just need to decide if you need a touchscreen or not...mine died about 6 months but never really used it much in the first place so I never replaced it.

My touchscreen stopped working the other day. If i use the touchpad the arrow moves. If i touch the screen then the arrow moves straight to the bottom. If I slide my finger from left to right anywhere on the screen then the arrow just slides across the very bottom of the screen. I tried cleaning the screen at the bezel and did not fix. Im running out of ideas

Well I guess your touchscreen is gone. Your best bet would be to find a MK1 with a good touchscreen. It seams the mk1 has the better touch.

OK....so want to share what you did instead of just posting that your screen works on a thread that is clearly aimed at getting advice on how to fix a screen?

Put your email contact in User CP since we can't PM yet.

Check Ebay for panels first.......since I have to get more than they cost me from Andre.
Right here. Touchscreen panel for Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 CF-30 laptop Touch screen laptop | eBay

    Ask about discount for NBR.

Where are you located. I can repair touchscreens but would rather talk PM or email.

STVFD........are you a fire dept? Discounts may apply.

I guess we can't PM since I just signed up for the site? I have my email listed in my User CP, but not sure how to let you see it. You can figure it out pretty easy if you know that I am the "firemarshal" at the domain our department (stvfd) is organized (org) on.

I can't find any contact info for that seller to ask about NBR or let them know that I am acting on behalf of a volunteer fire department. Anyways, I do need 2 panels. I am in Charlottesville, VA - I took the screen apart and didn't see anything obvious (debris, bad ribbon cable) so I think the whole touch panel needs to be replaced. The old tape is holding the touchscreen in pretty good right now - is there any trick to pushing the old one out and getting all the old adhesive off?

Get the bezel free from the rest of the lid. Use a safe edge double razor blade (paint scraper) and lay it flat on the front of the screen and shove. Takes about five minutes. If you ordered two new panels from Andre you will find a piece of gasket in the package. Some folks trim to fit .... I just use full width.......This is after you have removed the old adhesive from the inside of the bezel.

Some advocate the use of a dental pick to work the adhesive loose. Works good.

The TS can be repaired but if you are using these in fire apparatus etc. the new ones are more of a sure thing.

$50/unit +return postage. If not repairable your option for a new panel. I wouldn't need hard drives, batteries etc.

Jeff ......scatterbrained but I'm cooking dinner. :D
