Well it all started when I installed a bluetooth card in the hidden PCMCIA cardbuss.I loaded the drivers but it did not work.I went in to the BIOS turned on cardbuss B. Bluetooth seems to work but now I find out that em408 GPS does not seem to work. I cannot get a fix on any GPS satelites. I do however get data. IGuideance does show it sees a GPS on com 4 at 4800 baudrate, but the program will not get GPS data. Do I need to chainge the dip switches, or how should I set the BIOS. This is on a CF- 28 MK2. Can sombody please help? Thanks All

Tomcat, Teo (Ohlip), or Rick (Toughbook) should be able to help you on this.

    Just to confirm

It was seeing Sats before you added the Bluetooth pcmcia card?

Make sure unimportant devices are disabled in the bios, such as Infrared and 56k modem

Try disabling card bus controller A

Try in windows taskbar near the clock display Stopping the Bluetooth

That’s a few things to try

    Report your results

You said you receive data or data streaming, right? It means your problem is on your antena. Check the connector it may not be properly attache or if you force it to hook it up to the connector of em408 it may bent the internal pin of the antena cable plug.

As ohlip said Antenna bad connection then
    Not software
Recheck your hardware installation, maybe the gps antenna conection loose
Confirm working with hidden card out

when you open up i guidance does it show any satelites? i have she same set up as you and my iguidance somtimes acts flakey. It would show 3-4 satelites with low signal (no green) what i did was set the baud rate to 115600 and it worked. Another thing you can try is uninstalling and reinstalling the com 4 from the device manager. Mabee there was an irq conflict from installing the pcmcia slot.
Does your pc have a touchscrene? mine does with and the em408 instlled I have never been able to get the touchscrene to work, the mouse jumps all over.

    good luck

My CF-28 has no touchscreen so I disabled the MS serial ballpoint mouse driver by lots of practise (and many hours of swearing with lots of 4-character expletives!) co-ordinating moving the pointer with a USB sun mouse until I could open up Device Manager and manually disable the driver!

The fix described in that link is excellent and I would never have thought there was a way to change the Windows startup settings like that.

At present I am seeing an identical problem with my factory GPS engine and the consensus, after doing a lot of hunting to sort out a problem with new hardware 'borrowing' com4 from the GPS filter driver, is that there is an antenna problem of some sort. It could actually be the antenna (I have double-checked that the antenna cable appears to be plugged in correctly), or it could be that the socket on the GPS module fitted to the RIM board has a dry solder joint. They seem to be the two most likely causes at the present time while I wait for some new GPS antennas to arrive that I will use for comparison purposes.

    Craig.

    That’s great news

    Thanks for reporting back

Sometimes we do not know how problems are solved, or if they were ever solved as the OP never updates their post

You'll have to be VERY careful if you are using the Sarantel antenna! There are tiny SMD components in there that will float off their pads if too much heat is applied. I would think the chances of you being able to resolder that are slim... As they are "tuned" a certain way... The solder may mess that up. But you have nothing to lose at this point.

Did it break because it was sticking too far out of the top?

Well I got it to work ,then reinstalled it and now it doesn't work . Lucky me. Now its time for a new antenna.Yes it was installed to high.I found info on Jim Grays sight on installation and they say it should be supported to the machined ring on the cap I will try to machine the RIM antenna plastic piece to see what I can do. I hope this time its more toughbook like
