Ok...I took my poor CF-29 apart to clean the desert out of her and get ready to install the components....turned it over and a small metal bracket fell out. Any one know what or where this goes?...![]()
(the pics attached have a triple A battery in them for size referance.)
Thanks.

Part # K894
Description: Lock plate
It looks like is is located around the dc in jack looking at the Schematic
Alex -
I can look into a few of mine when I get back home on Monday.... Best I can do... It doesn't look familiar to me. But that could just mean that the part is usually tucked away and is not part of my normal customization of 29s...
Does the laptop still work okay? Everything on the outside still tight and working? If so... I wouldn't worry about it until we can figure out EXACTLY what it is... -

Well Tomcat57 sent me the link to the service manual....I am gonna go through that and see if I can track down down it's location. As for working ok...lol am still awaiting all my components so I can get it up and running, so it remains to be seen if it's important or not! I'll keep you upto date.

That is part of the lock slot. Just drop it into the square hole where the lock slot is located.

Teo,
Where is the lock slot?

Ok yes, the laptop-top can survive very much with out it. This is the re-enforcing tab behind the "lock" reciever on the rear, around the corner from the power in jack. Whew!!!
-
lostwithoutsauce, is it poosible for you to resize those to 800x600? I'm running 1280x1024 and I STILL have to scroll lol
... (plus it helps users who have crappy monitors lol)
-
It means that your unit has not been open yet by a non pro coz that piece of metal still there. When you open a unit and this piece of metal bar is missing it means that somebody has already open the unit. I can see now that you are non pro. You assembled the unit without it.
Alex, lostwith... answer his own Q? It is at corner where the dc jack located.

lol teo! if you have spare screws after putting a toughbook back together than you must have done it correctly
-

I will have to look on the cf-29 that I bought from him last spring if its still there

I hope this picture size is ok...sorry about the giants in the begining of the post. I hope no-one eles ever has a part fall out of a machine on them. What a disturbing feeling!!!
-
I am collecting them for ebay. $5 each. LOL

-
I NEVER have extra parts after disassembling/re-assembling ANYTHING.... I just have parts that I decided not to use!
-
I was joking around when I said that earlier comment lol... Its just cuz a Toughbook has a million and six screws that's all!
-
BTW, the battery on the first to the 3rd photo is not included nor part of the machine. LOL
