It wasn't there before. It's never been banged into anything.
Since I gave it to my brother, its only gone between two rooms while in a laptop bag.

The right front corner of the palmrest is cracked at a 45' angle from the right side, across the corner to the edge of the SD slot.

What's the best way to fix this?

    Thanks

The best way, of course, would be to replace the entire palmrest; they're running $20-$30 shipped on eBay for GC pulls with working touchpad included.

Your next best option will be to try and use epoxy to repair it from the back side; either method will require disassembling the laptop. If you try to repair it by applying epoxy from the outside to avoid disassembly, be mindful you don't have lumps of hardened epoxy in areas where they can interfere with closing the lid or crack the LCD panel.

I'd say the laptop is worth spending $20 on.

What's it worth? It's worth keeping.

If you're selling, i might be interested in one of them. My sister in law took a liking to toughbooks after she used my cf-29. She asked me to build a machine for her. Although a more "sane" computer than my cf-29. (Her words, not mine)

How much punishment can one of those stand anyway? She's got a four year old daugher and another kid on the way. Although, she's not the most patient of peole herself.

How difficlut is it to replace the palm rest?
I assume I'll have to take the hinges off.
Is it difficult to take the hinges off?

It's not hard at all. You will need to take the lid off...just 4 screws. You do have a service manual.

not completely indestructable, the first one I got was a spares or repair one which had Orange Juice spilled on it - completely FUBAR'd the MOBO, stripped of useable bits, bought another one and eventually had one that worked that had everything i wanted on it. Gotta say if you keep it away from OJ then it's pretty hard to break. Not as tough as a 27/28/29/30/31 but better than your average laptop.

The biggest problem with it is it is a lot heavier than your average laptop which is what put my wife off it. I originally built it for her but she has gone back to her slow as a tortoise 5 year old Advent / ECS laptop. I'll get her to start using the Dell I got for her some time before I get too old and grey.
