A common gripe from new Toughbook owners is that there are no headphone ports up front. The front location used by non-rugged laptops is convenient but vulnerable. Panasonic of course puts everything behind covers and doors, but the headphone ports wound up in back. I used the following to circumvent this problem:

One flush mount USB PCMCIA card sourced on ebay with the guidance of our moderator Toughbook
One Logitech G-37 7.1 USB headset, bought refurbished on ebay for under $60

The headset plugs in the USB on the side, has a mic, noise cancelling, and (with optional software available free from LOGITECH) simulated 7.1 surround sound. I am enjoying this setup already!

Well... With an open port... If you are boating or whatever... You are still vulnerable....

I've head a few gripes.... But not too many. But "MODS" are our middle name! ;)

    An interesting mod!

I need better headphone hookups and/or louder sound for my usage. However, I think that I am going to look to Bluetooth for the solution and in a different package then I have now.

    Or get a CF-25.... :D

But bluetooth is the way to go! Got a Sena Parani UD100 BT adapter build in my CF-18, connected to the internal BT ant.

Together with a Philips SHB9000 headphone and the Toshiba BT stack it turned my 18 into a set which made the local dj want one.... ;)

I don't see what the issue would be about installing an exterior jack and hardening it... But BT would offer more choices if it is a good BT unit.
