Review Summary: Let’s take a detour from the smooth sailing world of smartphones shall we? We do agree that smartphones rule the roost in the world of mobile phones, but there are others, that serve a niche market whose demand will always be fair and steady, if not thriving. We’re talking about mobile phones made to take on the extremes of the world with an armour stronger than Troy Hurtubise’s. One such is the Sonim XP1 Mobile Phone.

Review Summary: Your social mobile phone is not always suitable for a more energetic lifestyle which is where Sonim Electronics might be able to help.

The Verdict: With its sturdy black rubber casing, weight of 150g and dimension of 113 x 50 x 22mm, this handset certainly looks the part. First impressions are that this is a chunky model designed more for practical use rather than a status symbol. Taking over the front of this one-piece thick candy-bar style handset, is the 4.5cm colour screen and combination of a control panel arrangement and telephonic keypad.

The screen resolution of 240 x 320 pixels is sufficient for the general use that is the main purpose of the handset. This is, after all a handset that does not posses its own camera feature. And as a result the developers do not expect this handset to be used for viewing still and video images or playing games. The screen is set back a little into the body of the handset and has a hard, scratch-proof cover for addition protection which is just as well considering the amount of wear and tear that is expected of this phone in the normal course of events ...

More excuse to get a GOOD PHONE! HAHA! But I am actually going out today to get that new Motorola Admiral Milspec Android phone :D. I can't use this military phone because it's a GSM only phone + it probably can't even do email - not practical for me.

    HOPEFULLY! :D

    No problem! :D

Beware of the fleabay Sonim's. A lot of them are fakes. Especially the Land Rover editions. Easy way to tell is read the description for the camera. The fakes list it as .3 or 1.3 megapixels. The real Sonims, and even printed on the fake cases, are 2 megapixel.
Directly because of this post, I have a ZTE "Tough" (camera's real name) T90 coming. IP54 and designed for improved reception in Australia's rural areas.
I can't afford a real Sonim, and this seemed the best deal for my uses.

I have an XP3 Quest, I did have a problem with it - the transmit and receieve went crackly. They repaired it under the 3 year warranty no problem but when it came back the transmit didn't work at all. So they replaced it again under warranty and again no cost to myself. Can't fault the customer service. The XP3 may only be 2.5G but it's a great phone and rugged as they come. Would like one of the newer 3G ones but at the moment the XP3 works for me.
