Today, i got 3 CF-30 mark 3 laptops. They dont have an OS. I want to install WIndows XP sp2. I have the SATA install disk (file = f6fd_8_5_0_1032_d081084.exe). But Windows XP tells me that no diskdrive is connected.

MY CF-30s i have, do NOT have a DVD/CD-rom drive nor a diskdrive. I do have a USB DVD-rom drive.

Do you have the answer/trick how i can fix this problem. Windows XP need a diskdrive for the SATA harddrive, but i do NOT have a diskdrive.

The type of my CF-30 is CF-30KTP48NL (i guess, mark 3 , fastest version)

Until know, i can boot the Windows XP install CD-rom, but it wont get any further.... (asking for the SATA drivers on diskette.... )

go to bios..set boot option for usb drive

    Download RMPrepUSB
    Download - RMPrepUSB

Use it to create bootable usb stick /drive

Transfer xp install files to usb stick

Boot usb stick and install OS

reread your post.do you have a hard drive?

    About RMPrepUSB

RMPrepUSB.exe is a front end graphical user interface (see screenshot Fig. 1 below) for the Windows command line program RMPartUSB.
RMPartUSB.exe is a command line Windows program that can access USB (and non-USB) storage devices, e.g. flash memory (UFDs) or USB hard disks or USB card readers, and partition and format them to make them bootable.
Supported Operating Systems that will run RMPrepUSB/RMPartUSB include: Windows XP, Vista, Server 2003, Server 2008, Windows 7. 32-bit and 64-bit versions are fully supported. WinPE v2 and v3 is also supported but the Copy OS Files option may not work and you will need to type in the folder path instead. Note: QEMU provides a 32-bit emulated CPU environment only.
Bootable Operating systems: You can make a USB pen that will boot to MS-DOS, FreeDOS, WinPE v1, v2 or v3, BartPE, XP, Vista, Win 7, linux (via grub4dos or syslinux boot loaders). You can also install the WEE bootloader from RMPrepUSB.
Portable - RMPartUSB andRMPrepUSB uses a vb6 DLL which is normally already present in Windows. The Installer version merely copies files and adds Desktop and Start Menu shortcuts, it includes an un-installer but you can just as easily simply delete the folder from your hard drive. These apps do NOT require .NET Framework support or WMI support. The both installer and the portable version will add various user-default entries to the registry on exit, but that is the only change made to the registry (no task bar/start-up/browser changes are made).

I am also able to connect the internal SATA HD of the Cf-30 to my desktop WIndows XP PC. Is it possible to install Windows XP with my Desktop pc, then re-install the SATA drive into my CF-30 ? I have a special USB-hardrive (IDE/SATA) connector (i use it several times to install systems on my old laptops collections...)

I can boot from USB-DVD rom. No problemo.

I read this from the panasonic website: Panasonic Toughbook Computer Support Downloads
In the case of clean installation of Windows XP
    [Preparation]
    - Floppy Disk Drive
    - 1 Floppy Disk (3.5 inch FDD 1.44 bite format)
    - f6fd_8_5_0_1032_d081084.exe file
    * In the case of CF-30K/L/M(mk3) download "f6fd_8_5_0_1032_d081084.exe"
    from the Panasonic Website
    ( http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/public/soft_first/cf-30_os/f6fd_8_5_0_1032_d081084.exe)
When f6fd_8_5_0_1032_d081084.exe is downloaded‚ and executed‚ several files are made.
    [Making of Driver Floppy Disk]
    - Insert the floppy disk in the floppy disk drive. Please copy the made file onto the floppy disk.
    [Installation of Windows XP](English)
    1. Set the floppy disk drive and insert the floppy disk made in the [Making of Driver Floppy Disk] to it.
The floppy disk will be used for the installation‚ so please do NOT remove it.
    2. Insert the installation CD of Windows XP and boot up the computer.
    * Unless it is CD-ROM of the Windows XP SP2 application being
completed‚the blue back occurs at last stage of boot.
    3. When the following "Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI and RAID driver…" message is
displayed in the lower part of the screen‚ press "F6" key.
(The message will have been displayed only while the "F6" key is effective.)

In the case that "F6" key could not be clicked‚ reboot the computer.

    4. When the following message is displayed‚ press "S" to continue processing. (*)

(*) The key pressed is different by the language.
    (Ex: English - S‚ German - Z)
Follow the indication in the lower part of this screen. (S=Specify Additional Device in English)

    5. When the page below is displayed‚ choose your applicable driver‚ using "↑" and "↓" key.
In the case of CF-30K/L/M(mk3) choose "IntelR ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller"
and press "Enter" to install it.
    6. The message "Setup will load support for the following mass storage device(s):" is displayed in the next page.
Confirm the driver chosen in the No.5 is displayed in the following line and press "Enter" key.
    7. An installation begins as usual afterwards.
Follow the instruction in that page.
    * Continue installing it with the floppy disk inserted in order to copy the contents of the floppy disk.
(If there is no floppy disk in it‚ the instruction to insert it is displayed.)

I try to install the Dutch version. Instead of S, the letter E is mentioned. Anyhow, i cant go further as part 4. There is not even a message for inserting a disk, just a message "There is no diskdrive connected. i can make photos of the screens, but how can i add them to this thread ? (oh, all text is in Dutch, my native language, as i am living in the Netherlands, that might be a problem to our mostly US/English speaking group)

    press F6, then insert disk.
Or should i NOT press f6 and install Windows XP anyway ?

    Shawn is 100% right !
Use Nlite (freeware) to burn your own iso image of XP with SATA drivers. You have a batch of tutorials on the net.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll be home tomorrow, and will try several things. I also have a diskdrive for the CF-72, and maybe that diskdrive can be used for the CF-30. Then things would become much, much more easier.

No on the cf72 floppy in a cf30..I have a floppy for a cf51 and it will not work in a cf30 or a cf52...I think the cf72 uses a different connector.
The newer units will only accept an USB floppy. The BIOS doesnt recognize the media bay floppy.

Disc drive from a 51,52,73,74 will work. You knock the lock tab off and slid it in. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm 99% sure they are the same.I use Rufus to make a bootable USB and have used it to install dozens of OS's on Toughbooks and laptops.

Never had to find sata drivers. That's a new one on me. :D

    Have you got one to pass bios/boot/access files..etc on a cf30 and/or cf52?
I tried and the bios would not even see the drive..

This is the drive I am talking about.

Here are some photos showing the tab that prevents the floppy from inserting into a cf30 cf52..
Pretty sure I cut this tab off one and it still did not work for me.
I added arrows but photobucket did not update yet...
