    Hi All,
I'm new here so please goes easy on me,
Sorry that the titel is a little bit confusing but I would really like to throw
sb555 sierra wireless card out the window. I've just brought my toughbook
and could not work out for what the antenne was for until I the plastic cover on the sim card slot. It was well glued and this peice of hardware was not mentioned by the seller. Oh by the way this is the North American model and I am in Germany. The question is what can I put in its place? and must you reuse the sled thats with it.

    Cheers in advance. :)

Are you trying to use cellular wireless?

If so, the antenna can be used on any other card, but you will want to get a German card.

If you just want "wifi" access to get online wirelessly, you'll want a 802.11A/B/G/N type of card.

What model toughbook do you have?

The signature isn't showing up. Not sure if the sig wasn't saved or if there is a setting to add it...

Do you want to use Cellular wireless? If not, you can ignore that card.

    Hey Modly,
this time difference is killing me. So Im not sure if Id want the cellular option.
I rung around today and found toughbooks from Germany are repaired at a service center in wales ,England.
They told me they do not upgrade books but only repair them.Translated into english what you got is what you have. No wonder caddys and cards are always advertised as rare and have extreme prices.Toughbooks were ordered as ordered and are only repaired and so sent back to the customer .I think thats a bit thoughtless from panasonic cos people like me could not afford an upto date, all singing all dancing machine. But still its the finest thing since the commodore 64. lol

You can replace it with sierra wireless 850 and it should fit (not sure about the antenna). The 850 has 3G (HSDPA) for Europe at 1.8 and should be plenty fast. I use it's counterpart, the 860 in the USA. It is not the fasted 3G modem but it will work with your existing slot and has a place for you to insert the sim card before installing it. Enjoy that cellular wireless.
