I was considering either getting a dvd rw or a media bay battery. I would prefer the extra life over the drive as i did fine without it on my netbook.

If it offers considerable more time considering its around $80 then its a buy for me, although from browsing the forums it seems the battery has less mah than the stock?

    I have the CF 29

I have a media bay battery in my CF-30 mk2. An optical drive is of no real use to me, but extended battery life is very useful.

If I turn down the screen brightness, reduce the speed of the CPU, and turn on all the power saving options then I get about 11.5 hours of total runtime.

The main battery is good for around 7 hours, the media bay battery adds about 4.5 hours of runtime.

With a new yellow tab and a media bay batt at average screen brightness and typcial use I was getting 7.5-8.0 hours, and as far as turning down the CPU speed I haven't ever done that and theres nothing built in I dont think, maybe some third party software could do that?

CF -28 MK3 here, I generally get at 100% brightness about 2 hours of life out of mine, at lower brightness it increases dramatically.

With my main and media bay I am getting about 5.5 hours, you won't be disappointed if a long runtime is what you are looking for.

I leave the house, use my laptop all day for work, come home, use it during the evening then put it on charge at night, its just like a mobile phone! i dont need to worry about charging it!

I have a brand new media bay battery and a brand new yellow tab, running win7 on my MK5 i get about 10 hours with the KB backlight off and the screen 2 clicks up from minimum

I think the MP battery gives about 3 hours - a hell of a lot more use than an optical drive! :)

Notebook Hardware control will allow cpu and FSB throttling :) and has a very good battery status reporter

If you're using Windows then you can alter the system's CPU speed through the power meter tool in the control panel. Pretty much every laptop from the Pentium-M onwards will support this.

Just select the power mode and the CPU will adjust its speed to suit. You can check the speed of the processor on the System Info window.

As an example, on my CF-30 the CPU clocks down to 798MHz when the 'Max Battery' power mode is selected.

My CF-18 used to do this as well. It would clock down from 1.2GHz to 599MHz in 'Max Battery' mode.

I change no settings and my main battery gets 4.1/2 hours and my media bay battery that I got from connor922 3 1/4 hours in my CF-29 MK3. I keep it in all the time.

About an honest 2 hours for a new media bay battery
Not much for the price in comparison to buying cf29 extra standard battery which will give you at least 4 hours if new

It does make sence if you are using it mobile a lot, and in the cf-28's where the main battery might be so worn out that you only have a hour or two runtime the media bay battery adds a extra 2 hours

CF-30 MK3, during the day I run 1000Nit if I am in the car, run it way down at night when I am in the car, which is alot of the time. I run my WWAN all day, KB on since the led's don't make a difference really, and not alot of programs at running at one time. I have always had a pretty good habit of closing down programs when I am not using them.

With both the Main, and MBB I can get around 10 to 12 1/2 hours. I tell you what takes alot of freakin battery juice is the Bluetooth. I use BT for my mouse and printer. Although I have like 10 programs running that deal with the Toshiba BT, I need to figure out which one's I can shut down that won't stop me from doing what I do. I asked a guy at work the other day but have not heard back from him. Wonderful IT people the Govt employees

Basically as Alex states it adds 2 hours if your not careful, you can squeeze more if you try.

The NHC is a great program works very well just the same as SHE for my Asus EEE. The only issue i have is it doesnt auto load with windows 7 even though it is checked to do just that, i thought it might an issue with the free version so i got the pro and still the same thing. Besides that there are no complaints.
I think i may end up getting a MB battery, unfortunately there are none on ebay right now.
