I have paper stickers on the black and silver parts of the top of the lid of my CF-73.
What's the best way to remove them without damaging the finish?

    Thanks

I've used Isopropyl Alcohol a few times because it's all I had. Cleans and sanitizes.

An art gum eraser will work too with a little "elbow grease" IOW rub back and forth briskly. For shoe cement I use a "magnum" gum eraser on a stick designed to clean sanding belts. Used to remove glue from saddle leather. On leather you can rub fast enough to discolor leather ....it gets hot.

Goop Off will most likely take off the paint, so you might want to test an area first. However everyone is right, it is a heavy duty gunk remover. If you use it be sure to wipe it down with a very damp rag the second the residue is gone, otherwise it will keep working till it softens the paint!

For something less heavy duty I might suggest a hair dryer to heat the adhesive and then peel off the offending stickers. Then remove the residual adhesive with a citric acid (yes think OJ) based cleaner, like Goo Gone, or as a step stronger, Acetone.

I have used Goo Gone on many Toughbooks and it never damaged any of the finish. Does a good job at removing sticky residue. Safer than Acetone.

Goo Gone works but it in turns needs to get cleaned afterwards because it leaves nasty residue which does discolor and stain if left on for too long.

I use Ronsol Lighter fluid; it dosent damage the finish and gets rid of all the glue without leaving anything behind.

a material called orange solvent which I used to get from a dental supply company works well to remove stickers and also gets adhesive off my hands. kind of like GoJo with out the abrasives in it. might be able to find it on fleabay or ask your local dentist if he can give a pointer here..Driller

Goo Gone Spray Gel is a citrus oil based solvent; it leaves your ToughBook orange-ey fresh smelling. I've never had it discolor anything a tough as the epoxy paint a ToughBook comes in; but it can attack spray paint. I guess it recognizes spray paint on a ToughBook for the mistake that it is. ;)

I have experienced and generated confusion with my mixing up Goo Gone, with Goop Off.

Goo Gone is Citric Acid based and unlikely to harm most paint.

Goop Off is a very strong cleaner and will damage most paint and plastic. It is a cleaner of last resort for most applications. But it will work when nothing else will. Please notice the changes in my original post for a clarification of my intent. I am sure of what I have written, I have had to clean a lot of commercial radio gear of paint, tape and old stickers.
