So I have grub on my laptop, that prompted me to do something stupid; try to update the Bios on my CF27EB with CF27F bios flash, because thats the only thing www.panasonic.com showed for a bios file...stuipd idea, now my screen doesn't work.....I've got a plan of attack for that though.

Anyway, how do I get rid of grub in my boost sequence? I already f-disked the hard-drive and re-formatted it, now I want to install win98 and go from there...the grub program seems to be keeping my computer from booting up into dos with cd-support. Any ideas?

    1) Use a Windows 95/98/ME startup disk (usually a floppy), boot from it and run "FDISK.EXE /MBR".

    or

    2) If you have a Windows XP disc, boot from it, choose the "Recovery Console" and after you get to the prompt, type "FIXMBR" then hit enter.

    Hope it helps.

If you have already done the FDISK and format, then it is probably a hardware problem caused by the BIOS update. Updating with the wrong/defective BIOS can do more than just screw up a screen...it probably killed the system.

You might be able to contact another user that has the same system (but working), and you MIGHT be able to extract a copy of the BIOS. But I'm not sure how to do that.

I got the correct bios, and it still boots off the floppy, I just can't see what I'm doing...my next plan of attack is a printer and the print-screen button to see what is going on! ARg...I'll do the fdisk /mbr once I get the new bios installed and the screen working. I knew I should have re-searched before I started dont stupid crap.

I ran into the grub problem too. I installed Linux and the went back to WinXP. It continued to try to boot to Linux. I had to run KillDisk to write zeros to the hard drive to clean it up and then do the Windows install. Worked great then.

Do a search on KillDisk. There is a free version that works fine.

No idea on the CMOS problem..... "Been there, done that... got the paperweight."
