    Hi all,
First of all, a Happy New Year to you all. Without you guys, idiots like me would be spending a small fortune at computer repair shops.

OK, what I need to do is install Windows 2000 Pro onto a Panasonic Toughbook CF-27 running a Pentium 2 @ 300 MHz and with 384mb of RAM.
Here's a list of what I have to help me to do this.
A Toughbook CF-27. Pretty obvious but best to make sure, huh?
A second PC with USB slots and DVD R/W
    A formatted 6gb 2.5" IDE hard drive.
A USB 2.5" hard drive enclosure with USB lead.
A fully legal Windows 2000 Pro disk with key code and COA.
The Toughbook has a DVD drive.

Actually, I told a lie there. I don't yet have the enclosure. It has been bought on eBay but it has not yet been delivered.
I'm guessing that it may be possible to just stick the new hard drive in the Toughbook, fire it up with the Windows 2000 Pro CD in the drive and all set to look in the CD drive first. The thing is, you guys don't know me yet. That simple routine may well work with 999 folk out of a 1,000. Guess which guy I am? Yep, the 1,000th, lol.
Anyway, the thing is that at the present time, the Toughbook is being used with a hard drive with Win98SE on it and it will be in use for a few days yet. I was just hoping to either get confirmation that the simple way outlined above WILL work or if not, a link to where I can find step-by-step instructions.
Thank you for any help of advice,
    Steve

Put the new hard drive in the machine, boot on the Win2K CD, follow instructions for a new install, then download and install the Panasonic drivers.

You might want to think about a larger HD, after all that you will need more room for applications. ;)

Springfield .... Thanks for the boost.
I bought 3 laptops on eBay, each with no hard drive.
I also bought 3 cheap hard drives to try them out with.
If this Win 2000 Pro installation works OK, I will probably spend our kid's inheritance money on a bigger hard drive, lol
I just didn't want to do that until I was sure it would work.
    Cheers,
    Steve

The 6gb hard drive has been put in and it was a simple case of booting up with the 2K disk in the drive.
I had to leave it there but tomorrow is a good day to install new drivers.
    Cheers,
    Steve
