I have a CF18. The seller showed on his page that you can write on the touchscreen like a notepad.

How do I do this please? Is it a specific program?

    Thanks

The factory Recovery CDs for CF-18 come with a Handwriting utility. It looks like a hand in the system tray. Like MS Paint but simpler. MS Paint should also work well.

For starters could you post your full model number CF-18??????? This will tell us which model you have. You will need to get the right restore disk, any disk will not work.

Handwriting recognition was native to some versions of XP, like VLK. I have never bothered to check if it was native to OEM Volumes.

Does it have XP, or XP Tablet PC Edition? If you need to use a pen to write on it you have the latter, and what you saw could have been the "Write Anywhere" function that used to be included.

For reasons best known to themselves Microsoft dropped this in XP Service Pack 2, but there are many other programs that do similar things. One of the cutest is Ink Desktop, which actually lets you draw on the Windows desktop. That's a free download from Microsoft as part of the Experience Pack for Tablet PC. But there are many programs that will allow you to write in a notepad-like window, including Windows Journal - which comes free with XP Tablet PC edition.

If you can use the screen with a finger you have ordinary XP pro, but you can still use a graphics or a note-taking program to draw and write on it. My favorites include the free MyPaint, and Microsoft's OneNote.

Not exactly. The ability to use a finger instead of a stylus (digitizer pen) is completely hardware dependent. Touch screen models will work with Windows Tablet and digitizer models will work with XP. Suggesting otherwise is completely misleading. Touch screens came originally with XP and digitizers came with Tablet. There are lots of options and reasons for choosing them, fingers vs pens is not one of the major ones.
