Bought a Seagate 500GB Hybrid SSD. Smokin fast start up now on my CF 19 Win 7 8GB RAM Toughbook! Not a bad price for the 500 gigs and the SSD makes it really nice and faster at booting up! Just info if the full SSD's are out of the price range but you want a bigger HD and the speed increase of the SSD via the Hybrid drive.

Also I picked up my Intel 320 120GB for $135.00 and my 160GB for $150.00...not much more than you Hybrid.

I have a 250gb xt in my gaming laptop
Sure its faster than a 7200rpm drive , but is not as good as the pure ssd -

and if I am right Alex you were one of the one's that said go for the real deal...pure ssd. bought 3 since then
. One for my 30 and one each for my 52's. My 52 is around 24 seconds startup.

You Gentlemen are the authorities here and I love your insight. I was just posting something for the folks that may not be able to have the SSD 160 GB drive, but would find the 500 GB Hybrid/SSD a good way to go. Sorry for making the commoner folk feel less important. From now on, I'll buy the 160 GB SSD over the 500 GB hybrid. I will feel all warm inside knowing that I have the fastest, not the most biggest yet faster.... Sorry :-(

Hey no problem here
. The main reason why I was looking at the Hybrid was the size and it was faster than the 7200 rpm drives. But I came on here first to see what everone thought of it and in the end I got the Intel instead. I didn't really need that big of drive...you know how it goes...something new and just gotta have it in me toughbook
. The main thing is as long as you are happy. That's all that counts. BTW...You got a nice 19 there.

My gaming laptop is hooked up to a 32" lcd tv and on most of the time
Why I went for the 250gb xt was cheap storage, and the laptop does not get turned on and off often ,so the saving of 12 sec on boot does not bother me
I was one of the first here to have ssd's in my Toughbooks
Starting years back with several $400 32gb samsung, $600 64GB samsung , $200 16gb Mtron and my last purchase a 80GB Intel
For the price the xt drives are good value ,and I will most likely purchase a 500GB on my next upgrade -

Not to worry, at some point in the future SSD sales will have reached a peak, so manufacturers will be looking at alternative ways to maintain sales, so you'll be able to trade some vital organs against a 500GB SSD, that'll give you something to look forward to.

Once you work with a SSD it's like misery to go back to a spinner. I bought the XT when they 1st came out. I really could not tell that much of a difference in it and a regular HDD. Now I just stick with nothing but SSD's and will never go back. I am waiting on the new Samsung 830. The specs read that it's almost twice as fast as the 470 which I use now and it is awesome.

The XT takes time to learn
It speeds up gradually after a week or two of use -
-
My thoughts are if you are not wanting to spend the cash for a full blown SSD, the small increase for the XT over a regular spinner is so little it can't hurt to upgrade to one of these.
-
but if you have an ssd you don't need that fancy hdd caddy anymore. : (
You won't need the heater and you won't need the padding, that would just make me sad -
-
How would you plug it in without the caddy? Unless you know something I don't
The extra padding can't hurt in my mind.

The "Padding" also reduces the shock loading on the drive CABLE CONNECTOR!! or is that too obvious?
