I tried to use another wi-fi network and it kept crashing me?

So I took my 18 to a friends house to show it off and when I joined there wi-fi (with PW) it crashed me and it rebooted over and over again.
I turned off the radio and it was fine? I came home and it was fine, but it still looked for there SSID even though I deleted the thing?

What causes this? I see nothing in Drwatson and cant find any other crash log.

Should I just delete the radio client and let windows manage my connections?

I've had some fail to connect but never has it made my system reboot over and over. I think you have larger issues... Drivers not installed correctly or something. What is PW? Password?

Maybe try a new or different wifi card. (After trying to let Windoze manage it.)

When I did the hard disk upgrade on my CF18 soon after getting the system, I also did a fresh Xp installation and it installed ProSet which was set up as the default wireless card management application during the install process.

If you don't have ProSet (which you can download I think from Intel's site) then just use Windows itself to manage the wifi card. If it's a normal Intel 2200 then it should work fine with the normal Windows driver set and you should be able to adjust settings, etc. via the regular Control Panel network connections screen.

But you STILL need the ProSet driver... So if you get the correct one... You are still better off having ProSet run it. You just need to make sure you have the correct drivers installed. Then you won't crash and burn.

Why do you NEED the ProSet WiFi Client? I've always thought it was a bit clunky compared to the Atheros Client; I prefer to let WinBlows manage my WiFi on both my machines with the Intel 2200 cards...

If you have a ProSet card... Don't you need the ProSet driver? Perhaps I am thinking about the parts that I use.... I know that the Atheros based cards I use won't work with the run-of the-mill wifi utility... Or with windoze directly... You must use the correct driver for the correct card. Again... In my experience.

Yes, PW was the key for router passage...
The card is built in so I dont think I want to change it, but I am using the PROSet tool and it shows a "Intel PRO/wireless 2200BG" in the device mangler, so I need to find out what the driver number is that I have and post it I guess.

EDIT. The driver I am running is 8.0.12.20000

There is a recent thread (Within the last 2-3 months) that have the EXACT driver and link that you need. You should search for it. The title has something about CF-18s in the title of the thread!

Both my HP/Centrino (BTW, the combination of Pentium M processor/chipset and Intel WiFi is what MAKES it a "Centrino" laptop) laptops use default Intel drivers and the XP WiFi Client; you only NEED the ProSet WiFi client if you don't LIKE the Winblows Client, at least on them.

Heh! Device MANGLER! I LIKE THAT!
