I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY CF-19 PANASONIC; WHEN I STAR IT, THE DISPLAY SHOWS A LEGEND THAT SAYS NLTDR IS MISSING. I DID TRY TO RE BOOT IT WITH THE RECOVERY CD, BUT IT DID NOT WORK. I HAD TO USE A EXTERNAL CD READER TO DO THAT, AND THAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM, CAUSE AT THE END OF TRYING TO RE BOOT IT IT SAY "IT IS NOT SUPPORTED". DOES ANYBODY CAN HELP ME WITH THIS, PLEASE.

Your boot sector on the hard drive is corrupted.
The hard drive MAY be failing.
The CF 19 is VERY picky about what external drive will work. It really needs to be a Panasonic usb drive.

Sorry...maybe I missed something.... Blair, where did you get that quote??????
I agree with Shawn although I have a D*** slot-load that works with about anything.
Normally I use the Panasonic for the CF-19. -
From the ebay ad I linked.

Samsung USB DVD also works, so I can't agree he needs Panasonic drive.
Image is for another MK of CF-19, that's why "it's not supported"
Turn off Caps Lock please.
Also it's much more clever to recover your current OS. It's 5-15 minutes with hirens usb flash or another recovery software. -
hmmm ... the NTLDR is corrupted or missing from the boot folder .
(new technology loader)
there may be even more files that are corrupted , but this is as far as the sequence got .
as for the fix ...
a recovery disk is the best bet ... especially for those not familiar with how to use the "hiren's" disk (although it is a very good tool set) .
giving this a shot is the easiest first try ... if this does not work , then as suggested , the HDD is going south .
even if it does work ... chances are the drive is going bad ... it may work just long enough to copy off your important data .
come to think of it ... if it is the original HDD (or more than 5 years old) , then i would replace it .
a/the recovery disk is available from "heartland" ... the other guys here know of other sources .
(read the part below about using a linux device)
if you don't have a an external usb dvd/cd drive then one of those sata-to-usb adapters will work ok .
(i just "restored" the image made for a '19 i bought from Shawn ... i dropped a ssd into the '19 ... used the device mentioned ... muuuch better)
a thought ... if at all possible , replace the good-chance-that-it-is-failing hdd (or is infected) with a ssd and reload from the ground up .
another thought about diagnostics ...
try pulling the HDD and check it with a linux based machine .
(or use a "live" cd or usb flash drive)
i have found that the tools in mint13 or mint17 (the versions i personally use ... there are others) are reliable in finding a failing drive .
one can also read the SMART data that is stashed on the drive that will indicate it's condition .
(another good reason to run a 'nix machine or live cd)
it is easier and faster on a 'nix based machine .
using another 'nix based machine will also allow you to copy off your important data ...
this is something that i have found that windows based machines do not like to do .
heh ... windows does not always like to play nice with it's brothers and sisters .
if the drive is dying ... it may reach a point where the data becomes impossible to retrieve .
(at least by *normal* methods)
spinning it up and writing make the drive die more quickly .
speed is of the essence ... if you have any data that cannot easily be replaced , make copying it off a priority .Last edited: Aug 17, 2016 -
A few "other brand" usb optical drives will work. It seems to be hit and miss as to which ones will boot a CF 19.
Many will not. I went through 4 or 5 before I got a Panasonic branded one. I have since found a Lenovo one that works.
But to be SURE that you have a usb optical drive that a CF 19 will boot from, Get the Panasonic one. Otherwise you will go through trial and error. I had a couple "other brands" that booted part way or loaded the recovery image part way and then crashed. It drove me crazy....
Indeed the recovery image may be the incorrect version.
What is the full model number of the CF 19?
What is the version or part number for the recovery DVD?
@Larry-CWB32..... Am I not good enough to have my name capitalized? Am I second rate? Harrumpf! -
i don't hardly capitalize anything .
and you did get an honorable mention in selling the '19 to me .
however , i shall digress .
but , there ya go ... fixed .
aside from the main gist of the thread but still related to it ...
perhaps you , myself and a couple other guys here , could experiment with those sata-to-usb adapters for hooking onto the '19 and other machines that do not have a cd/dvd drive "built in" ?
between us , we should be able to cover quite a range of cd/dvd drives ...
i think i have close to 12 of them laying around ... and that is just the "big" ones ... not counting the ones that fit in laptop machines .
(my adapter will let me hook up PATA drives too ... including the oooolllddd 1.44 floppy drives)Last edited: Aug 17, 2016Shawn likes this.
