I'm finding out that more parts don't interchange very well into Mark I CF-28s.
I'm trying to install the 800MHz board into it, and many things don't line up;
Video connectors. Same connectors, but switched around, and one does not reach.
MP bay board. Screws do not line up, so you can't mount it down.
Various connectors near the clock battery. Either don't exist or are wrong ones.
Looks like I'll have to save this board for a screwed up 800. Ah well. Just wanted to share the info.

Interesting, I actually never noticed that... I have some laying around to.
-
If I could pull the connector through for the video, it might have a chance.
I could open up the holes on the motherboard to align with the 600MHz holes... and everything else would be set. -
heck you shoulda told me, i would have left the 800 motherboard in the housing! i've still got it and i'm headed over by the airport and then down to bowling green SOMETIME this week so maybe i can meet you somewhere over that way. i wish i would have read this earlier, we were at my wifes uncles house in dundee all day!

I didn't find out til early in the morning, so no worries.
Give me a call when you're heading down that way, and I'll see about meeting up with you somewhere. I've decided to pick up more parts for this book before selling it (Antenna is on the top of the list), and I ran out of silicone for my antenna connector (Want it waterproof).
I just hope the bottom shell bolts onto the top shell from an 800 (I'll check that first I suppose), because the 800MHz and 1GHz bottom shells can't take a lock without modification (And I've got keys for this one).
As for the video, I'm not sure if I can make it work yet, But it looks like I might be able to unwrap the cable covering a little and pull it through more. -
I have a parts 600 here as well, i will see if the top panel lines up. I'm surprised to hear that the 800 mobo won't go into the 600 chassis, that kind of sucks. i found out about the differences in the LCD wiring as well.. I had 800 wiring hanesses so I ended up just swapping them into the 600 LCD panels. It works but you gotta be REAL careful with the plug that goes into the LCD panel, it likes to come apart when you pull on it! I agree with you that there is probably enough slack in the harness to swap them, it is just SOOOO close without even unwrapping it! i wonder why they had to go and do something like that? atleast the LCDs are compatible between the different CF28s, unlike the CF27s

I think I've figured out the wiring portion. I can unwrap it a little and get more slack, then re-wrap it. Not sure if I'll get all the slack I need, but it's more than I had.
The good thing is we're finding out all the quirks.
Important swap notes
