The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Shawn,
I got your PM. Unfortunately, I can't seem to reply to it. Awaiting your next one.

Yes, I saw that, but the field would not accept any typing. I couldn't even get a cursor to show up.

I shall give it a shot. It sounds very do-able.
I discovered that the Intel matrix driver caused nothing but problems (Windows Update wouldn't run) so I removed it. Everything is working very well now under Win 7.

I have no idea what is wrong with my settings on this board. I can't reply to any PMs -- my reply fields are "grayed-out".

You should be good to go in about 2-3 hours once the forum gets automatically updated. Let me know how you make out.

Since you're not super, do we call you "Great Moderator" or just "Good Moderator"
    Definitely not "Mediocre Moderator"

Just to follow up on this, are you still having the issue, your account settings in the database check out, but if it still doesn't work, we'll see what we can do about this.

    Hi Tijo,
Yes, the reply fields to PMs are still greyed out and I can't type in them. I have never seen anything like this before.

If it makes you feel better, neither have we. toughasnails already notified the rest of us and the lead moderator will delve deeper into it, he's got access to settings we don't. Sorry it's taking so long by the way.

If it helps any with the diagnosis, the "Quick Reply" field here is also grayed-out until I click on the "reply" button. I don't know if that's normal or not. I truly suspect it is something that is set wrong in my computer since others do not experience this. Shawn and I have gone over to direct e-mail for now.

Quick reply greyed out is definitely not normal either. You could always try clearing your browser cache, but I doubt it's that.

Ok they check out your account and they could not find anything wrong with it, is there anyway you could try a different computer and different browser .

Regarding the inability to reply to PMs, it is the same on a different computer.

Well I really wish I could help you but they checked your account twice and could not find anything wrong. So all you can do is read your PM's then ? if so just make sure the sender sends his email so you can reply back.

Yes, that's the situation. Not really a big deal, but perplexing.

I just tried to create a new account with a different name and password, but as long as the e-mail address is the same, the software won't allow a new account, and I only have the one e-mail account. I guess I'll just live with it.

    I can identify with that!
It's probably one of the absurd "security" settings in IE.

OK, I just logged on to NBR with Firefox and there was no problem with responding to a PM. So the problem resides within IE.

Not unhappy with IE. Just want it to allow me to do common tasks -- such as replying to PMs here on this site.

    Blair,
Maybe we should split off all the posts about the site issues and web browsers into a new thread?
