Newbie to this forum! I am waiting for my CF18 to arrive, and I realize now I purchased the touch screen model with XP Pro...I use Windows Journal on my other tablets, and only now have had a "DUHHH" moment, that Journal is not a part of XP Pro...my alternative is OneNote (Which I've used in the past, but it's way more than what I need). I do environmental Inspections, and in journal I can capture an image from a usb webcam, and paste it into Journal...then I can draw or handwrite notes on the image....any suggestions out there?
I do have an unused OneNote disc, but I was hoping there was something more "Journal-Like" out there. I suppose I could put Linux on the cf18, and use something like xjournal, but Linux is a project down the road on this puppy.

Yeah... You don't want to go down that road right now.

Yes... Digitizer with XP Tablet or Touchscreen with XP Pro. I guess you just now found that out.

I've never used Journal before or OneNote for that matter. But there are many screen capture programs out there like Screen Grab Pro that are free and do a great job of capturing screen shots that can then be imported into paint or other programs to jot notes on. I would think that even PowerPoint could be used similarly... But I don't know if these programs need to interact with other programs like Outlook, etc.

I've been reading up on OneNote...I'll give it a go! I ended up ordering this cf18 by default, not knowing much about any panasonic tuffbook...I had a ebay deal go bad (no ones fault really) I originally purchased an Itronix ix325..quite a beast, but it had trojan issues, and the seller offered me a cf18 at a great price, so I spent about 2hrs on this forum, and thanks to folks like yourself (you seem to be a great job as a moderator)...I was hooked...the only support out there for the ix325 is lame...I know, I was so frustrated w/the non support I started my own forum (I've own many Itronix units).
    Thanks for your efforts

Well... Don't just give up! I would think that there might be a few people who would be willing to trade a touchscreen for digitizer model... The accidental purchase works the other way too. I know that I purchased a Digitizer model on accident once. Well... Not accident... I got it for a great price and didn't even care what it was.

So you need Tablet to make what you need work?

I dont know yet...I've gotten thru about 60 pgs of the post here, and it seems like the touch screen is the prefered display...I guess I'll have to see how well palm rejection works...I do a ton of hand written notes...Onenote should work, just that my brain is full, and I intentionally try to avoid new software solutions at work (if it aint broke...)...work would buy me a tablet pc if I asked, I just don't like the restrictions, security, and snooping that comes with it (pisses my I.S. department that I use my own hardware..I get much pleasure from that)!

if u want 2 write on a touchscreen u have the advantage that u can use ur finger or whatever. on the digitizer u have 2 use the predefined pen but u have no problems, if u lay ur hand on the screen and it is more precious. my opinion is, touchscreen for buttonwork and digitizer for writing and drawing.

My thought is: a digitizer is only good for handwriting recognition and all of the function that you can imagine on didgitizer/touchscreen model has the same.
