I have a Panasonic cf 27 ej6 and I recently installed windows 2000 on it. I founded on panasonic.ca the modem driver for it , i extracted the files on the install, but the gsm antenna doesn't connect to the internet. Would anyone know how to install it?

Thanks for any help you can provide

    David,

    Welcome to the forum!

First.. Can we have the complete model number of your laptop? (CF-27XXXXXXX) I'm not sure which modem you are speaking of... If you are talking a dial-up modem... GSM has nothing to do with that. If you are talking about the WWAN type modem then you will need additional software as well as an account at .99 cents per minute rates... If they even offer support for that anymore.

If you are speaking of wifi... Then THAT is a different story.

Can you fill in the blanks for us?

    I believe the CF-27EJ is a UK none-touchscreen model?

Does if have a UK or US Keyboard (where is the '@' symbol?)

The ones I'm thinking of are (I believe) Ex- British Telecom and have a GSM cellular modem fitted. As far as I know these are a 'dial-up modem' over the GSM cellular mobile system, low data rate and charged as a voice call.

I had these in the CF-27s I previously owned, though I never managed to get the GSM bit to work properly. Mine had the SIM holder under the palmrest, you had to just about dismantle the machine to get to it. The GSM module has an IMEI number sticker visible from the top when the palmrest is lifted.
    - I think I have one of GSM modules in my junk box still..

    OK,
the radio is (presumably) a Wavecom WISMO1B-G900

There as a user manual for the stand-alone version of this device here:
    http://www.cognitivekipple.com/store/Wavecom_WMO2-Manual.pdf

These look as if they should just work as a basic dial-up modem using the AT command set, with a maximum data rate of 9600 Baud.

I never got mine working, but I think the SIM I used was not set up for data calls.

Cellular Digital Packet Data is what we are referring to when we talk about the RIM MODEMs on the CF-28s; they were essentially the equivalent of using a dial-up MODEM over ANALOG Cellular voice network to make a connection to a telephone line at a land-based ISP.

If I understand rjenkins, this technology did the SAME THING, only it made the dial-up connection over a GSM voice network.
