Hi folks, not been here for a while.
Don't want to keep banging my head against the wall so thought I would ask the people who know.
Is there a way to install xp on a cf18 using my cf29 without installing/buying windows NT or something. I have the xp discs

ps would have liked to have just swapped the hard drive over from the old 18 but obviously it sees a new motherboard.

    Whats your model # ?

The recovery cd's and a usb cd drive are the best option
The second best is xp pro oem disk and downloading the drivers from panasonic downloads

    @dentsmithy,

Long time no hear, how's life in your neck of the woods?

I've never bothered with the bios update on my mk1, do you know without checking if the update gives you the boot from usb option in the bios boot order?

    thanks,

    o.g.

Long time no hear, how's life in your neck of the woods?

been traveling a bit and working a bit and ofcourse the 29 just soldiers on.
We just bought a bare CF18 1.2 Ghz because the battery connector on the motherboard had come loose on the 1.1 - not much use on the road.
Thing is the 1.1 bios was just basic but the 1.2 has usb hdd, usb cdd and usb fdd - infact anything I plugged in showed up as an option in the bios.
When the first external dvd player wouldn't master I got a long way into loading xp from a flash drive and I'm sure if I had persisted it would work but time was against me and I bought another dvd - all worked in an hour and a half including drivers.
So, to answer your question - Yes it does

For those who want to avoid buying an external USB cd drive you an use this app to make a bootable thumb drive from your windows installation disks using a computer with an optical drive.

WinToFlash - Install Windows from usb - Home page

I don't know if this will work on the panasonic restore disks but will for windows CD's from xp to version 8.

That might be a better app than the one I used which kept missing files and starting again, though in principle it worked.
Don't know if it would have been recognised in the earlier bios or on my MK1 29 - will try when I get time.

I've used it on several versions of windows 7 and windows xp without a single issue. So far it's been great to me

    Good luck

One thing you gotta remember is the restore disks are a image so its a little different than a windows CD but if it does work it would be nice to know.

If that's the case the app i linked probably won't work on the panasonic restore discs
