    1) I bought a used CF-29HTM50MB on eBay and I think it may be a touch screen model, but how would I know?

    2) I just installed XP-Pro. Can I install the touch screen drivers or do I need a copy of XP Tablet?

3). Also, on the drivers list there are what appears to be several versions of the same the, with the only difference being a letter or Two.
Which do I supposed to install?!$! Thanks!

First off; you transposed two identifiers: the correct Model Number is CF-29HTM50BM:

    CF-29HTM50BM Description:
    ***SBC ONLY***
Pentium M 738-1.4GHz LV (Centrino), 13.3" Transmissive touch XGA, 512MB RAM, 40GB HDD, WLAN 802.11 a+b+g, Win XP SP2, Tempo VIP Sidekick Tester I/F, EDGE(GC83), logo, asset tag, replaceable RJ11 jack

Use these [ Install Instructions ] and they will guide you on your route to configuration.

As to WLAN driver set, this is the latest version:

    wlan_d080215.exe [89.8 mb]; Release Date: 03/03/2008

This is the correct Touchpad/Touchscreen driver:

    mouse_29_3_d030178.exe [357.9 kb]

It should be a touchscreen BUT the model you have "SBC" is known to have a bad touch screen. These 29's were well used and not looked after very well and now they are flooding fleabay with them....20,000 give or take. Some members here got lucky (15%) others not so lucky (85%)
What you need is the restore disk, 25 minutes and XP Pro + the drivers are installed......sweet. http://forum.notebookreview.com/tou.../512521-sale-recovery-cds-you-name-model.html
After you get the touch drivers installed and IF your touch pointer retreats to the bottom right, yeah it's dead......thought I might answer you next post, even though you have not asked it yet but will ;) :D

Does my having two retired SBC units, both with working touchscreens, change the percentages? ;)

After install/restart, my touchscreen still does not work, but my cursor never moved to the bottom right... I'm wondering if I need to install anything else or maybe this wasn't the right version or...? How can you tell if your model has a touchscreen? Also, do I need XP tablet or will my XP Pro SP3 work fine?

I am not really putting down the SBC 29's, just letting you know ahead of time what might happen and if you get one and find that you have a working touchscreen you will be really happy that you hit the JACKPOT and then you can come back here and rub it in my face  . Good luck

    In post #3 topcop1988 wrote
If you go here Panasonic Toughbook Configurator and put in you model # CF-29HTM50BM you will get the above.

    You need XP Pro

If you go to Control panel / system / device manager and click on "Mice and other pointing devices" you should see "touchpad/touchscreen" if not try to update the drivers and point them to it if they do not find them

I noticed all the drivers were for SP2, but I have XP Pro SP3, is that a problem?
And yes, it says touchpad/touchscreen in the device manager... I think I might be in the 15% :(

    No.
You missed the meaning of "15%".

He means that only 15% of the retired- SBC units (all of which are equipped with Touchscreen) have a working touchscreen.

Having the touchscreen does not mean it works.

What was the Auction Number of the one you bought?

If after the proper driver is installed and you have 0 response when you touch the screen ,that means that you have 100% failure of the touchscreen

If you touch the screen and the cursor moves to the bottom right like my mk-4 does ,that means you have 50% touchscreen failure as some connections are still working

In either case your touchscreen is unusable

my cusor never moved and i installed it the way they said . I just go with the touchscreen isnt working. I still enjoy mine the only thing I am thinking on is a backlit keyboard everything else is fine. got a new dvdrw and a 320 ide and its been a dream. I would recomend a yellow tab battery. I got one off ebay that was new old stock. and I got 6+ hours of just leaving it on and i got a extra battery charger so I might get a second one than I have all i need

Well, now I'm set on having a touchscreen ToughBook... Should I sell my CF-29 and buy a newer one or replace the touchscreen (digitizer?) on this one?

No digitizer on a 29 , only touch. I hardly use the touch, I have a bluetooth mouse that I use all the time. Should you sell it ?? good question, do you really need a touch. I would try it the way it is for now and if you think you need one then sell it but the way things are on ebay the next one might be no better :)

No, I got it "as-is" and only boots to BIOS.

I want to know WHAT exactly is the fault in this model. Is it the touch screen itself or the controller board that goes out.
I read that the part number on the board was DFUP1266ZA but when I Googled it, I found my version of it, how do I know what the correct one is?

It is the touch screen panel that is the issue

Just to be clear, you went to device manager and updated the driver for the device "PS/2 compatible mouse" and pointed it to c:\util2\drivers\mouse AFTER running the file you downloaded from Panasonic, correct?

If you don't do the above the touchscreen will not work.

Depending on the device, the "install" program you got from Panasonic may just place the drivers on the machine and not actually install the device.

Yeah if it's like the 72 you have 2 mouse drivers listed in device manager and you reinstall the TS driver to one of those. can't remember which one. Then it shows up as touchscreen and the utility to calibrate it pops up bottom right tray.
