Installing in a CF-52 running Win 7 64bit, I covered pin 20 on the Intel card as suggested in previous posts. Finally got the driver to stick, but device manager reports that the device cannot start. I have not been able to load the Wireless Switch Utility because "access to Panasonic Misc driver was unsuccessful". Stumped....

In the instructions to switch to Win 7 I there is a step that you go to device manager and double click on system devices and do an update on Panasonic Misc driver with the newmisc file I downloaded. The Panasonic Misc Driver does not appear in the list. I am thinking that without these lower level drivers the mini PCI-e port may not be active. Hotkey driver is showing in the list FWIW.

Think I may have found the reason they are called Toughbooks! Any help is appreciated.

We can kill this thread... I called Panasonic Tech support this morning to learn that this laptop has been reported stolen. I called the person I bought it from and we are meeting at the Sheriff's Dept to turn it in. Cripes. Next Toughbook I get will be from a known seller and I will get it with WiFi installed. Thanks everyone for the help in previous posts.

Hmmmm... We've seen this before. Sorry it happened to you. Personally I think everyone should check them with Panny when they buy them... I think we'd see more of this.

I have purchased all my Toughbooks from reputable ebaY™ sellers and paid for them through PayPal™, thereby giving myself at least a little protection from buying stolen property.

And since they are all now registered with Panasonic under my name I am reasonably sure they're all legit.

Well, the day I bought it I registered it online with Panasonic, but that system is not tied to the database of support calls. To future buyers of used TBs you would have to call the support number to check. Given that most users are government and industry it is a good bet that they would flag Panasonic if there was a theft.
In the end there is no surefire way to know. I had a huge Nikon kit stolen years ago and reported it to Nikon and never heard a peep. I guess the gear was never sent in for any warranty work. In the television production world there is a site that will post stolen gear for free.... kind of a Craigslist for victims. Check it out... may be a good moderated sticky for this forum.

GG... Again... Sorry thatthis happened to you... But at least you inquired to see... Most don't unless they need warranty or other service work... Then they may be out the service/shipping fees AND the money they paid.

Hopefully everything will all turn out right, you get your money back and the authorities find out the truth about everything and can trace everything back to where it all started. As you see on ebay and craigslist... These things flow like wine.

If you have any questions... Just post them here and we'll get to them...

    ;)

Good news is the seller met me at the Sheriff's office and refunded my money.
Now I will look for a tougher Toughbook. I have a unused XP Pro license that I can install in a project laptop. I will look around for a Toughbook over the next few weeks. Maybe a 29, 30 or 31.

You should already have the COA for XP Pro on the bottom of the laptop. You can also get recovery disks and make installation super easy...
