    Hello,

I just put a Billionton bluetooth card in the internal card slot.
It works great (it is the card with the little antenna)
I have 1 question at the guys who has the same card.
I can not turn off the radio by the software, the help says that the hardware doesn't support the software on/off.
I wish to turn it off when not needed for energy reasons.

Does some wane have a solution for this?

    Thanks

Disable its startup. Go to Start, Run, msconfig, startup and uncheck the box. It's been a while since I have done it but that is the way I used to do it... And it was with a different type of card.

I can dupe the disk that came with mine if you would like... either that, or i wonder if modly would mind hosting the driver on his site since it has become somewhat of a standard for us toughbookers!

I've got it pared down to 64MB by trimming off Abobe Reader and the Cell Phone crap you don't want. It's too large for me to host but I'm trying to find an online place that will.

Toughbook - can you post it to the Yahoo Toughbooks Group site - how big is it? There is a file area there.

Edit - Never mind - just checked the group site and 100MB us the total space, so it might not go too well.

I'm not sure what happened to the server (My nice Power Mac G5), but this morning the primary fan was blowing so hard, it sounded like a nascar race in my computer room. Had a nice firmware error displayed telling me to turn it off.

Let it sit a few minutes, and it didn't come back on. Sniffle. Hope I didn't melt down a processor!

Great news. I managed to get the server running again, and after I get all my hardware back in place, i'll throw that bluetooth driver on there.

I'll have my new Dual processor tower in a few weeks, so hopefully the next downtime will be when I swap my four SATA drives into it.

Ahh! bored at home, when I realized I can make that dam bull keyhole to make it look much better. I have taken out the keyhole, drill a bet enough for bluetooth led and then drill again with a small bit all the way for a tiny wire. Parted out the bluetooth card modified, wired all the way to the keyhole. Installed the modified card in to the secret PCMCIA socket. After wiring up to the keyhole, put some epoxy(transparent one) to sealed it again. Thats it. Next project SD card reader

If you get bluetooth working on your CF-28, then you can probably use any bluetooth devices that you have. Google is your friend.

Hey I've been thinking about the cool LED you did here in this picture. I just had an idea along those same lines. You know the little display in the handle base that came with RIM/Sierra 28s? Why don't we try to use those LEDs for this? Ideally, we could have one for ethernet, one for wifi, and one for bluetooth. The only problem is finding out how to drive an LED from those comm boards. I'm looking at the 14-pin connector of the ethernet module first. This connector seems to be a standard for laptop ethernet, and the 3com board used the same 4 pins as the stock one, so maybe its safe to assume that the pinout is standard too? I did a google search and this is the only place that I've found so far that gives the connector's pinout:

    http://www.tcommate.com.tw/manual/MP-5xx%20user's%20manual.pdf

And it does look like there's LED outputs! BUT.. even in that document alone there's TWO pinouts given. So maybe there is no standard pin assignment. I think I'm going to experiment with the ethernet card a little and see if I can get it to drive an LED!

Problem solved! (for the most part)

Pin 14 on the connector (the pin closest to the modem port) drives an LED. BUT.. it needs to be inverted! The LED is ON when there is no data and OFF when there is data. shouldn't be a big deal, this can probably be solved with one transistor.

So now I wonder if there's any chance in HECK of figuring out where to tap into on the engenius wifi board to drive an LED?

I'm excited, it'll be pretty cool to have the little LED panel actually be useful! Now I wonder what we can do with the switch... :)

Grav - That's what I was talking about when I asked if the switch panel could be used to turn on/off the wireless or GPS on the daughterboard. Could use a two transistor latch circuit to turn on/off power to the USB easily enough... don't know how easy/hard it would be to do so on the mini-pci.

That is my first thought to install on that area but unfortunately i don't have those mat'ls, the three led indicator and if i take out the plastic covering i need to resealed it again. So, i changed my mind and think why not into the keyhole.

All of my mod. are on hold coz of budget even the sd card reader to my second cf-28 maybe i will list it down on ebay for good in a few days

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Billionton-v2-0...ryZ44999QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I normally buy mine from BOTEQ on ebay. I noticed that they don't have any auctions working now so I emailed them. They are taking February off and will list them again starting the 25th I think he said.

The one you show has the antenna retract into the card while the one I list has the antenna fold down beside it. So you definitely get a better signal with the one I list if you plan on putting it on the inside slot.

Thanks for that - I thought it might be too long, but the antenna 'bulge' looks a lot smaller than most other adaptors.

I guess I'll just have to keep my eyes out for the one you mentioned....

With the lack of availability of the Billionton card in the UK - I have found this one which should fit: Another alternative??

The same length as my PCMCIA card reader which fits perfectly into the side bay on the CF-28, so it may well fit into the hidden slot too?

Only question is: Worth buying/unknown quantity/worthless piece of cr*p??

I have a PCMCIA-CF card reader which fits easily into the hidden slot. I can even finagle to open up the side carfully and slide the card into the slot without disconnecting the network jack from the LAn card. (getting it out is not quite so easy) For now I have the side piece in place without screws - it's a pretty tight fit- as I am trying to get a floppy boot to recognize the PCMCIA, and need to be able to pull out the CF-card to reformat/reinstall onto it.
Don't know anything about that particular card though.
