Hey Superstars - just got a 1Gzh and getting it all set up, everything was going great until I booted up after installing the new internal card http://www.worldlingo.com/S1790.5/t...Communication/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=972
I have installed this same card on a bunch of 800's with no issue. At boot up I get a "resource conflict - PCI Network Controller on Motherboard
Bus:01, Device:01, Function:00
I go into the BIOS and I only see in the advanced tab a cardbus controller A. I have the new wifi card in the slot closest to the battery (the old phone modem) Suggestions would be greatly appreciated and welcome - Thanks guys and I apologizes if I am missing something stupid![]()

Got it - no clue all I did was take it out and put it back in and Bammo - installed the driver and Utility and ready to roll -

Might have been a seating problem? Or a driver conflict that was resolved on reboot?

Do these units have the connection for an external antenna?

to make the built-in RIM/Sierra SB300 antenna useful again as a serviceable antenna for WIFI.
I really need to get onto some more advanced testing on this subject; however preparing taxes and a rush in my repair business have kept me pretty busy of late.

Ok thanks. I went through that post and do understand what you are doing (drawing on my Ham Radio Learnings).
I am going to attempt to add a wireless mini PCI in an 800 machine. Going to go with removable bulkhead external antenna. (another post I saw). I am going to use the stock RIM antenna spot for the internal GPS addition. Based on the great info posted here.

I agree, this place rocks. I think everyone here no matter what they do in life are the most intelligent, innovative, and friendly set of people I've run into in a long time.
I believe everything I hope to do with my next unit has been done here by some one or another. Personally, I have a thing about firewire, and I'm hoping I can get that built-in one day soon. I am so interested in the internal mini-pci slots it gives us so much possibility!
In an unrelated note, I am also very network intensive, and as I was doing a Retrospect backup of my one and only, I was pushing 80mbit (about 120mbit throughput with software compression) between a NAS and the laptop last night. It was the first time I've really pushed it and I am pleased at the system's performance.
During the height of the network I/O the cpu stayed fairly unloaded and that is the mark of very well-designed hardware. I'd say the system design (controllers, cpu, buses, etc) is way up there. I am dying to run linux on this system which is why I also want a second internal caddy so I can work on that without risking my work-related stuff.
I also need to look at getting gig-e working, I have need for faster network access, I need to see if I can use a dual-nic card as well (sniffing network traffic or whatever I might need when I am in a data center...)
We're so lucky to own these machines, folks... They rock (I've only used CF28, CF29, and CF30 so far)
If by chance you're in Japan, and run into someone who was on the Panasonic Toughbook Engineering Team, buy them a pizza! They deserve it.
Speaking of things I want, I'm also in the market for an XP COA with key from a dead CF28 (i.e. I'd buy the shell of the system or buy one with a bad motherboard, etc) as long as the COA w/key was intact.
The unit I bought seems to be from a corporate distribution and has someone else's name on it. I have an extra copy of XP I can load onto it but not until I have no other choices.
Thanks
