I think someone posted that it works on vista and win7 not xp, they state"now is a good reason to upgrade to win7 from your much loved but antiquated xp". I still use xp and have vista on a couple machines but haven't taken the jump to 7 yet, unless its the jump to seven of nine........Driller

Windows 7 32 or 64-bit? Apparently there are a lot of problems with the 64 bit version. Also, if you do have 64-bit W7 on your computer, supposedly IE9 will, by default, load its 64-bit version -- without asking. I'm not sure how you do it, but you might investigate how to force IE9 to install its 32bit version on a 64-bit W7. The Ed Bott article on ZDNet discusses this issue.

My desktop is 64 bit and it forced me to install the 64 bit version of the RC. I have not tried the RTM version yet.

I'm not sure but, I believe that if you install the 64 bit IE9 you also get the 32 bit version. I know my desktop had both 32 bit and 64 bit IE8. The 32 bit version is the default.

I am running the standard IE , v8 with my W7 installs
    Compatibility is the main reason
I would not worry about running 9 at this time

And here I will repeat my 3rd Micro$oft mantra:

Friends don't let friends use Internet Exploder.

Why? Because, like every other bit of crap that comes bundled with Windoze, IE is granted special privileges that no other similar application gets in the OS. THIS is the fundamental flaw in the security of the browser; it is STILL THERE, and there is no reason to believe it will ever cease to be so.

Use ANY OTHER BROWSER and you will be safer; they don't get the special privileges, those special privileges aren't there for every script kiddie on the internet to exploit.

    mnem
    So endeth the lesson.

Yeah - TC is right. The issue is probably NOT on your end; it is probably Automatic Updates related.

I keep it turned off for that reason; they don't allow you to turn off specific types of updates (I don't use IE, I don't need or want updates for it that can damage other software on my PC) - you either get the whole ball of cr@p or you have to take full control of the process and vet every update yourself. I choose the latter; Automatic Updates has a history of breaking massive numbers of machines in the wild at least 4 times a year since its inception.

If you NEED IE9, install it manually. This should allow you to do it correctly, and by the time it needs to be updated, MS should have the issue with Automatic Updates resolved, or a patch to fix what their current patch broke.
