Is 27,500 accumulated hours bad for a CF-31 Toughbook MK2 with SSD in it?

I hear a lot of talk about accumulated hours. I recently bought a used/seller refurbished toughbook (typing on it right now actually). It sees to have no issues and is working perfectly fine. I checked the accumulated hours and seems to be about 27,500. However, I heard that it doesn't matter much for a CF-31 because the screen is powered by an LED backlight and even CF-30's themselves (which have an earlier wearing CCFL tube) do well to 50,000 hours and beyond.

The hours go up even when the screen is completely off, it stops when shut down or in standby. So the back light might have been on most of the time(screen saver) or maybe not.

I usually look for lower hour computers myself (just because)! But we are talking about ToughBooks here!

That said, my husband's laptop is an Acer Aspire 7720 that we bought in 2007. It has the old CCFL backlight. It is hardly ever turned off, and in power settings HDD is set to NEVER go to sleep when plugged in, so I figure it has well over 12 years or 100,000 hours on it. It is not even dim! Granted, it has not been calculating pi to the last place, or running SETI that whole time, but I am impressed that an old Acer with 100,000 hours is still plugging along! It even runs Windows 10 Fall 2018 update!

I would say a ToughBook should be able to easily match that durability.

We have had cf-31 units sent in for work with 60k hours on them and they still work great.

I think of it this way:
The accumulated operating hours show only when the Toughbook is in use. If it is sleeping or hibernating it does not add any hours to the total.
So if a toughbook is being used* for 10 hours every day of the week that's 70 hours a week.
27500 hours use would be 393 weeks or 7 and a half years.
Something that's used for a solid 10 hours every single day for over 7 years seems to me to be very high use even if it's a rugged Toughbook !

*That's being actually typed on / browsing etc...

That's one way to look at it. My CF-53 MK1 has lived about 90% of the time under my 55 inch fat screen TV. I use a Logitech K400 wireless keyboard. It has over 22,000 hours on it and it works like the day it was new.

I would have no problem buying a Toughbook with high hours but the price must reflect that. If it's all banged up then it had a tough life but if it's in good shape it might of been on a desk it's whole life so it might of been look after.

What kind of shape is it in ? Price ?

CF 52's are considered Semi Rugged.
I retired my last two CF 52's with 25-28,000 hours on each of them.
Other than needing the LCD replaced because they are CCFL. They both still worked great. It was time for me to upgrade performance.

The CF 52S I am using now has just developed a bad usb port. It is the hardware portion itself, as the next port is fine. Maybe it just needs cleaned.
All my CF 52's have been well used with lots of browsing, file downloads, Live usb stick creations, NAS access, etc. This one has 24,440 hours on it.
And these are only Semi Rugged, not Fully Rugged.
Don't worry about the hours so much. Like the miles on a car. It all depends on HOW it was used/abused.
So far, the ex Air Force/Navy units are the most abused. Low hours doesn't matter on them.

Looks like you started using your Toughbook in 1950.!

If my math is correct 590000 hours is about 69 years at 24 hours a day....
