It's a Leadtek LR9548S sirfIII gps,a good one, maybe it's possible to take the board and fit it on the soundcard board of cf-19, or mount it like a factory gps with the antenna bump on the side. I dont know if the connectors will be compatible,I haven't the cf-19 yet. What do you think? thanks

That looks like the same unit out of the Gobook 3. I have a few of the same basic card but built on a PCMCIA card out of a gobook book 2 and have the same unit in my Gobook 3. Same antenna too but it's not made onto the card. With the pin out you could make it work.

I am wanting to say I have seen this modded in the past, but yes it did involve soldering some wires. It wasn't plug and play.

Okaay.... I previously had the idea that 19mk3 (and mk4) OEM GPS had a Sony unit. But the links above (especially the one from mrugedmobile.com) list the specs for a Leadtek LR9548S SirfStarIII based.

I have a 19mk4 w/ OEM GPS, but right now, I'm not sure what is the chipset used in it...

Should I remove the plastic bump-out and checkout the unit (if there's anything that can be read in there) ? or does anyone else have proven info about it ?

These are the connectors near the place where the gps antenna goes [IMG]

How can I use the gps itronix board in the cf 19? Maybe it's possible to modify the cable to make it fit in the cf19 connector...

That is where the WWAN goes, the factory GPS went under that board.

Find the usb pins on that cf19 WWAN / PCIE slot. Get an empty prototyping PCIE board. Solder the Itronix's GPS , usb connections to the corresponding usb pins on the prototyping board. Then plug it in...

Interesting...but doing that will prevent me from using other pci express cards. However I should buy a soldering station (maybe with hot air gun) and praticing soldering...some time ago I rosted a gps module using a cheap and big soldering iron.

You can't use that for "other" pci express cards. It's not a real pci express slot. It's usb only. NO PCI interface. Pretty much limited to bios accepted wwan cards. Unless you hack in to the usb port on the slot. SSD's, TV cards, etc... have been tried in many different Toughbooks. Only WWAN (or WLAN in the wifi slot) will work...Sorry...been there tried that...
