    Hello
I was wondering if the CF-52ELNBDAM is able to use 802.11n in the 5 Ghz band?

Secondly can the MK1 CF-52CCABXBM be converted to 802.11n in the 5 Ghz band?

    Thanks

    David

Well I put an Intel 5300 802.11N card in my cf 53G. I had to add the third antenna to get the 5ghz band. It works great in my CF52G.

It depends on what wifi card is in it. I took out the original card and put an Intel 5300 in. The 4965ag I took out does not have 802.11n. The 5300 I put in has 802.11n. The 5300 uses 3 antennas. The 5100 uses 2. Both have 5ghz on N. I used the 5300 and added the 3rd antenna. GREAT performance....

Apparently Intel took some 4965agn cards and disabled the N at the hardware level. Those cards are labeled 4965ag.
Others are the 4965agn with the N function enabled. It does work at 5ghz.
All of the 4000 and 5000 series are draft N.

Try looking in device manager under network cards and tell me what devices are listed..

Ok my bad, I am looking at buying a new CF-52ELNBDAM and need to know if it is able to use 802.11n in the 5 Ghz band? If it is not able to use 802.11n in the 5 Ghz band I do not want to buy it.

Secondly I have a MK1 CF-52CCABXBM that I would like to upgrade to 802.11n in the 5 Ghz band? The MK1 CF-52CCABXBM Device Manager shows a Intel 4965AG

    CF-52ELNBDAM
    Panasonic Toughbook 52 - Core 2 Duo P8400 / 2.26 GHz - Centrino 2 with vPro - RAM 2 GB - HDD 160 GB - DVD+/-RW (+/-R DL) / DVD-RAM - Radeon HD 3650 - Gigabit Ethernet - WLAN : Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, 802.11 a/b/g/n (draft) - TPM - Vista Business / XP Pro downgrade - pre-installed: Windows Vista - 15.4" Widescreen TFT 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA).

From everything I can find, the CF-52ELNBDAM has a Intel 5100. Which has N and 5ghz.

Your CF-52CCABXBM does not currently have N or 5 ghz band. The easiest and almost certain to work is to find an Intel 4965agn. An Intel 5100 or 5300 should also work. Once in a while some Toughbooks are picky about Wifi cards.
DO NOT GET A CARD FROM A HP OR IBM / LENOVO.
There is a L shaped cover on the bottom of the CF52. The wifi card is under that cover.

Thank you Shawn, for all your information and time. From reading your post's in another thread I would also need a 5ghz antenna for the MK1 CF-52CCABXBM.

With respect to the CF-52ELNBDAM I have been burned before thinking something would operate in the 5ghz band only to find out they implemented 802.11n in the 2.4ghz band. So I was hoping to find someone with an actual CF-52ELNBDAM or a parts list showing the 5ghz antenna.

Thanks again for all your help

I bought a flag antenna on fleabay. It is about an inch square and is sticky on one side. If you look to the right of the touchpad, you will see a cover about an inch wide and 3 inches tall. It is plastic. I stuck the flag antenna inside this plastic panel and fished the wire over to the 5300 card. I don't know how well 5gthz works with 2 antenna's, but I know my speed on 2ghz doubled as soon as I installed the third antenna.
One screw on top and I think one is hidden in the top of the HDD bay. Unplug and remove battery from laptop before doing any modding.

Just one odd thing I experienced: 5Ghz with n might not be enabled standard.
I was downloading over wifi (I usually use a cable) and noticed I couldn't get over 3Mb/s speed while the internet was 200Mbit and N on 5Ghz should allow for at well over 5Mb/s
Just google it how to do it, but I needed to change a setting on my wifi adapter in windows 7 to get it working.
    I have a CF-19 mk5 btw.

CF52Axxxxx is with 4965ag - it does not support 5Ghz band...
