Has anyone had a cf-52 apart and could tell us if the cpu is soldered to the mother board.

Yes I seen that but I like to get my info from the members here. Why you ask...I too asked a seller that was selling a MB for a 52. His answer was "solder ? this is a bare board , no cpu".... . I do not trust too many fleabay sellers UNLESS they are a member of TBT or NBR. Thats when you know you are getting GOOD INFO thats right.

Thank you for pointing me to there but have learned that ebay is not the place to ask toughbook questions

correct me if I'm wrong, it looks like it's a soldered cpu but I can't see it too clearly. Does anybody know for sure if it is soldered or has the socket to drop in a cpu? thanks, the picture says SLA3U which if I'm correct is a PGA (which opposed to a BGA) means it fits in a socket that has a latch, i.e. not soldered. Hey gurus, set me straight here, does this give me another rabbit to chase?.........Driller

Looking at the 52 I would pass on the MK1 because speed wise the 51 is faster the way I see it with our upgraded cpu. Below is what I got from the manuals . Our best bet would be the MK2 for price because I know we are not going to find a cheap MK3 this early in the chase.

    CF-52 MK1 ( A/B/C/D) Core Duo 1.8 - 2.0 GHz

    CF-52 MK2 (E/F/G/H) Core 2 Duo 2.26 – 2.4 GHz

    CF-52 MK3 (M/P) Core i3-330M 2.13 GHz – i5-520M 2.4 GHz - i5-540M 2.53 GHz

On the contrary, rather than seeing prices dropping anytime soon, expect an increase, if Driller is up the right hole! Now where's that wittle wabbit... :D

Hmmmmmmmm. Driller and the right hole? something doesn't sound quite right here. Anyway, still want to see if we can get the mk-2 cf-52 and swap in one of the higher end T 9XXX series cpu's. These laptops have the 965 graphic chips and I do believe they will handle 800 and 1066mhz bus speed. Some readings are saying this combination is at least as good as the higher wattage cpu's but in the 35 watt range which I know the cf-51 will handle, so why not the cf-52? Just need to bite the bullet(good phrase for my profession) and pick one up for the experiment. Driller
since the cf-51 core duo upper limit cpu is a T7600 with the 945 graphic chip PM or GM, and you also have 6MB on board cache with the T9xxx's got to be a winner here let's see if can do this with a cf-52.
