    Hello All...

this is my first time on this forum. good to be a member of a great forum

here is problem.. hope someone can give me some helps.

I bought a japanese Y5 and it came with Vista Business Japanese.
I installed Xp and found some proper drivers from the japanese panasonic website.

The thing is... the function key does not seem to work. and i can't control LCD brightness anymore. Can someone help?

Also, I was thinking of replacing the whole japanese keyboard with a US one. is this possible?

    Thanks so much!

If you open the BIOS when you first boot up, does the LCD brightness function work in there? If you hit the FN key combination that switches from LCD to external monitor does the screen flicker or show any sign that you did anything? If these functions won't work while you're in the BIOS, then you should be able to rule out a driver or OS problem causing it. It would seem like the FN key is actually broken or at least not being recognized. If they work in the BIOS, but not in Windows, you could try reinstalling your chipset drivers, keyboard drivers, or Vista from scratch since it comes with no repair install option.

As far as dropping a whole new keyboard in, I couldn't say for sure. If the keyboard form factor matches the one you've already got it should work.
