Hey guys... I need some help... *JUDDERS*

My "new to me" MK 2 arrived yesterday.... I've spent several hours with the toothbrush & Windex & Al-Q-Haul getting it as clean as I can... but I NEED TO SEE IT LIVE.:GEEK:

My AC adaptor is still in the clutches of the evil USPS; shipped out over a week ago. It may very well be in East Bupkus, Wyoming.... or Afghanistan, or worse - Portland Oregon... but wherever it is, its NOT HERE.

I have scoured every AC adapter I have... (Over 200 in my collection) and NOTHING with a compatible connector. :radar:

    *Shudders*

I have started to take the bottom apart to power it up with alligator clips a dozen times (ZZZZZZZT!)... but I've managed to stop myself so far. I don't know how much longer I can hold out...

Awww come on... just a LITTLE EMF.... just a LITTLE...:twitcy:

Not a mark on the screen...1 little ding on the top...this thing is cherry

I haqven't been in a radio shack in a while but I know they used to have a big long cable with tester power plugs on it. I wonder if they have one for toughbooks on it?

At least it's not in Detroit. They'd have stripped it for it's copper to buy crack already.

Not yet. I think I'm the only one that's stubborn/stupid enough to still want to do it that way. However, I found a website that's owned by a guy that seems to know an awful lot about antennas and related equipment, and I had been meaning to post a request on his message board to see if he'd share any insight on the subject.. check it out:

Well... I'm jonesing to get my CF-29... It should have been here by now!

Hey... Does anyone know off the bat how I tell if it is the "Elite" series? I looked on 800memory.com just to check to see the max ram available. It shows two types of 29...

The model number shows it has 256 soldered in but the ad says 512. (Maybe 256 & 256?) anyway... I'd like to get it up to at least 1GB ram...

Anyone know? It supposedly is model # cf-29etkgdkm

I picked up one of their variable adaptors cheap a while back. It does have one plug that fits - I'll have to find the thing and check to see which (if it has a number).

    Hey TB,
I'm new to the Forum, starting when I recently bought a CF-29ETKGZKM. It has a 256 removable memory card and, I assume, a 256 soldered in because I have a total of 512. I started a thread about adding RAM to a CF-29 and several of the fellows responded; so you may want to take a look at that.

When I looked on Newegg for 1gig cards, they all run faster than my existng card. So far, I haven't heard from anyone who has actually tried the faster 1gig cars. so I'm still undecided about trying one.

The Panasonic site does say that my model supports up to 1028. But that still doesn't tell me if I can add a 1gig card that runs at a faster speed.

If you find something that works, I'd like to hear about it. I'll do the same for you.

Thanks Pappy... Yeah I saw your thread after I posted here but after typing all that in... I didn't feel like copy and pasting.. Plus I figured you'd see it.

I'll wait to see what I actually end up with. The peckerheads just got around to shipping it today! A week after the auction ended. I actually called the guy and he said that it would ship immediately if I didn't want the OS installed. I told him I was swapping the HD anyway... Don't do it and stuff it in the envelope NOW and get it in the mail! Well... You see how they work... anyway... <stepping down from soapbox> I'm still jonesin' for my 29!

    I hate sellers like that.

When I sell stuff on eBay, with the exception of Sundays, I ship by the end of the next day.

    Okay guys...

I STILL haven't gotten my AC adaptor in the mail yet... *GROWWWWLLLL*, but I DID finally get around to plugging the model # into the TB Configuratrix...

    WOOOHOOO!

I Hit the JACKPOT on this little grime-encrusted gem...

    CF-28STJGBDM : MK3/P3 1GHZ, 13.3 TS (Pristine under the well-worn screen protector) 256MB Onboard, 30GB OEM/MK3 heated HD Caddy, RIM/Cingular Wireless & Win2K.

I have everything I want on on it on my MK1; the PCMCIA cover the MK3 is missing is the one cover I HAVE on the MK1.

    I will build 3 things into this new laptop;

    USB 2.0 / FireWire

    Wireless G-MIMO/A/N

    Bluetooth 1.2

And maybe a WarpCore alignment interface; this thing just SCREAMS Engineering Dept; depends on the battery life with the new TriLithium matrix...

Modly - I see most of your XP drivers are labeled for the MK2 - is there any difference?

(ED) Nevermind... I see you have them organised by MB family.

Also - Is there any updated BIOS for the MK3? If so, what does it fix/add support for?

(ED) Same answer - I know. Just open my eyes and READ. DUH! Found it. Thanks.

    Thanks for all your help,

    mnem

I have an S section for MK3 drivers. They are just poorly labeled because I don't have one :D

There is also an updated BIOS, but you may or may not have the latest. I've got that in my goodies too.

Heh - looks like your reply crossed with my edit in the aether... LOL

I'm the guy nibbling at your bandwidth right now... getting everything you have for MK3 & XP. The list I have doesn't tell me what's what, but I'm assuming I should be able to figure that out once I unzip 'em.

Hey Modly - do you have a PayPal account I can hit to send you something for the Band/BeerWidth Fund?

I appreciate you putting this all together in one place free of bots & advertising...

Okay.... this is nearly too hard to bear.

I just got an eMail from my seller telling me my AC adaptor got returned to him & asking for my address; fer cryin in the mud, my PayPal verified address is the same one at the bottom of the eMail I sent him with my payment. :mad2:

I'm dying here - I just got an eMail back from BlindCenterNV telling me that the Windows XP Pro COA that was supposed to be on my laptop was shipped today (great people - I emailed them with my complaint, they got back to me in 4 hours, promising to find that COA for me... my laptop looked like it took a grenade blast in a grease pit, but it cleaned up pretty nicely :spinny: ) I've just got my new Atheros A/B/G wireless on its way, and my AC adaptor is STILL in East Bumfork Indiana... :realmad:

Heh - it should've been there for LAST XMas...

Well, I found a dead auxiliary battery unit at the Goodwill Computer Dump for $3; it has BOTH the male plug on a 3' cord AND a female socket on a 6" cord. Dunno what I'll do with the latter, but it seems like I should be able to make some use of it. Between that and my Digi-Key order coming in, I've got like a dozen projects ready to get going now. I'm gonna try my old standby method for getting Winbloze on a machine with no CDROM; copy the XP install disk to a 3GB bootable partition & let it run from there; USUALLY Setup will reset the new remainder partition as bootable when it converts it to NTFS. After that I can wipe the 3GB partition & make it part of the same volume as the Windows partition, or save it for Ubuntu, or use Partition Magic to reclaim it as part of the larger partition. If it doesn't work, I may try the floppy set with USB support from the Micro$haft website.

Okay... time for an update: I have just completed repair of my new AC/DC/Air power adapter, I'm getting started on installing XP. I have found a 128MB of RAM from another laptop which bumps me up to 384MB for now; but now I need to get into my old laptop stash to try & find some antennas for the new wireless card. This is my main project (well, that, and taking care of little Marcus) for the weekend; hopefully baby bump will sleep and let me have some tinker time.

Well, XP Pro does now happily (& LEGALLY) reside on my TB; I have 384 MB/30GB & am now typing this message using the factory chiclet KB over the OEM NIC.
The display seems much brighter than my Mk1, but the contrast seems poor & a bit washed out. The touchpad is a bit flaky as well, perhaps both issues due to not having any MFR drivers installed yet. It seems strange that disabling the TouchScreen in BIOS made no difference; but right now I want to see if that new wireless card works so I'm off to raid my junk laptop bin for antennas.

    Next update:

After rummaging in my stuff for over an hour, i discovered that the wireless antennas I though I had have vaporized. Since I had nothing else to work with, I decided to take a gamble on what I DO HAVE...

You all will be amused to know that while those Magellan GPS antennas have not yet been proven on this forum for GPS use, they DO make a passable Wireless G antenna. I took my defunct RoadMate 700 apart & robbed the micro-uhf connector & cable from it & hacksoldered it to the SMB bulkhead connector for the antenna, then snaked it all out under the HD to flop around under the handle area. Brief signal acquisition testing revealed that I was able to walk about 70 meters down the street (through a brick wall) before signal dropped to 1 bar; right now I am sitting on my back porch about 20 meters away with 4-5 bars as I type this post. I would guess this antenna at around 2db to 4db based on this performance; your mileage may vary.

I have installed the TouchScreen drivers and recalibrated the screen; while the screen does work marvelously, the touchpad is still a bit squirrely. I've cleaned it carefully, but it is very badly worn, so I suspect it may be time for phase 2; installing the much "newer" & cooler BLACK touchpad from my Mk1, along with the rubber keypad. I'm still vacillating over changing the handle; I think I like the black handle better & it's much better condition than the one on this Mk3.
